I heard that Mavic will be introducing a new 40mm carbon clincher this spring, supposedly a bit wider and lighter than their older ones - anyone have info on that wheel?

I gotta be honest I would be surprised, given that the C40 has only been here a few seasons and Mavic's road development cycle is usually really, really slow...

Where did you hear this? I would be a bit surprised too. However, they did make the CC40 Elite which is a less costly version of the CC40 C, using the same rim, spokes, etc just different hub shell and stickers which suggests maybe they are trying to clear out the stocked up rims?

Also, the new ksyrium pro carbon SL clincher is wider (17mm internal) and has the same design (aluminum insert) so they may be using that for a new 40mm depth wheel.

Ok, so I'm surprised :P

A new 25mm external fat and blunt 40mm deep full carbon clincher (no alu insert) with new brake track (resin and machining), new freehub, significantly lighter wheelset than Zipp and cheaper too. Ksyrium carbon clincher is being delayed because it will share the new construction techniques instead of the original alu insert design. 60mm full carbon clincher to drop later in the year.

Sounds like Mavic are finally moving with the times.

My mavic rep did tell me the same and showed me pictures - they look a bit like firechrest shape - which is a good thing.
Also no more aluminium inserts with the highend clinchers.

I am surprised that there is not really much info floating around the web till now.

Mavic rims have come on a lot and at last they are using steel spokes ...

That said, I remain unconvinced by their hubs ... they have always felt draggy, however trivial that might be it doesn't help out on the road

Their wheels do look great though ...

That's looking good!

I suppose it's to early to ask for a retail price? :D
