Try as I might, I have not been able to find a concrete answer to this question. What is the difference between the Novatec 711/712 hubs and the 771/772? They're both 11-speed road compatible and can be ordered with replaceable end caps. I've seen that the 772's can be upgraded to an alloy axle, which would be nice from a WW perspective.

Can anyone comment as to the difference between the two axles, and can anyone make a recommendation? I'm planning on building a set of CX wheels for next season (24/28h) and have narrowed my search to these hubs. Before dropping the coin on one or the other, I'd like some advice.

Thanks!

Both these hubs have an alloy axle.

The D711/D712 are for Q/R skewers only. The D711 XD can be had with thru axle end caps I don't think the D712 can be bought with thru axles as it is simply not compatible. The D771/D712 is compatible with a variety of axle standards.

Given the load that disc brakes place on spokes if you need a 28 spoke rear you need a 28 spoke front.

The D771/2 hubs ae 440g/pair and the D711/2 hubs ae 410g/pair.

Thanks for clarifying the question. Sorry for my delay in getting back to you (out of communication for the holiday).
