So, I was on bike24.de the other day and found some heavily discounted Schwalbe Ultremo tubulars. However, the tread patter reminded me of a rebadged pair of 'Specialized Turbo' tubulars I had at one point.

So, they have a Veloflex style tread and a 'Mag. 2010' stamp on the base tape which seems to point to them being manufactured in Italy. What do you reckon

Looks very much like old Veloflex carbon 22mm to me.

How much did you pay for them  ?

Those are some nicely aged Veloflex carbons. 100% Nice buy.

I do think that they are indeed Veloflex. They're still going for 30 eur a pop if you can grab some. I got 6. :-D

Really veloflex?? If so, damn good deal... I noticed the website mentioned 40mm presta valve. Do I have to worry about that if my wheels are 50mm? (yes, noob qn) :)

junchen- just get some valve extenders, continental ones work best in my experience

They certainly look like rebadged Veloflex to me as well. I know I have a set of 22mm Carbons lying around from that vintage that I'll dig up and post some pics for fun today. Could they maybe have been used for a team that was sponsored by Schwalbe at the time, do you think?

Not that it makes any sense and is probably down to random luck, I've found Veloflex to be more puncture resistant. That and since Vittoria moved to Thailand, they have that base tape lump around the valve which often creates a small hop.

Bought 6 of these myself. At this price I will give veloflex a go. I hope they are puncture resistant as gravel is everywhere at the moment. Looking forward to trying them out.

What difference does an "aged" tubular make?

It apparently hardens the rubber I think though it is not something that benefits continental or vittoria tubs which use different glues.
Aging according to lore improves puncture resistance and some on here swear by it.

Aging is not something that necessarily helps with FMB's either. Sorry to blow up the myth, but I asked Francois myself and the treads are already old even on freshly made tubulars. Aging increases the risk of base tape separation though...
