I've been riding low/ medium size depth rims for some time and i am thinking i would like to try something more aero.

At this point, i am not sure what the deepest option that should be considered is?

It's pretty windy up here and it seems it comes from all over at times.

I am not sure i would dare jump a 60mm deep rim, especially for the front.

Anyone who could shed some light on what to expect jumping from 38-40 up to 55-60mm wheelsets?

My wheelsets has ranged from about 1000-1185 grams.

I am a bit scared i would find some options pushing me around more than they would actually help me!?

You need to test ride some wide 60mm deep rims to know. I have 25mm wide (26.5mm at the widest point) 50mm deep rims in my race bike and there has to gusts of 40 mph for me to pushed around much. I weigh 82kg most days. Winds of 15mph even 20 mph cross winds dont cause me to get blown about.

Borrow some and see it the only way.

bm0p700f, that's an ideal for me, but no-one let us borrow wheels for test here. I have tried, but impossible...

I did a lot of testing (power, wind, HR, speed) with my 63kg kid and found the 50s about the best all around. HR was higher in 3 tests with the 90s at the same power so I'm guessing some core comes into play managing the larger profile wheels. Wheel weigh also goes up quite a bit as profile goes up. We have Easton EC90s, HED Stinger, Zipp 404 and Mercury M5. The M5s are his favorite all around wheel.

I was contemplating Ax Stream 55 or the cheaper but more heavy (forthcoming) Tune Schwarzbrenner 60T.

Enve cost too much and Zipp carry most weight which is a downsizer.

Just read at Boyd cycling, if you're at 37km/h or above, most of the time, then 60mm is good for us.

I am not, so i guess it's not ideal for me as i seem to be too slow (i ride solo).

You guys who run such deep wheels, what speed is your average (honestly)?

If you're 75 kgs, 60 mm will not be a problem. If there are very strong gusts, then sure, you will be pushed around a little. But since you ride alone, it doesn't really matter. I would be concerned, if you were 69 kgs and did group rides or races. Look at the pros. Lots ride deep sections. Zipp 404 are 58 mm. A teammate is 75 kgs, and rides 808, he doesn't really care about the wind. He races with them as well.

Average speed? Between 40 and 43 in races, between 30 and 35 while training.

Aha, that's about my typical speed. Now you got me curious again.....

I'm 83 kgs, and have two wheelsets. 38 mm and 50 mm. I'd wish that my 50 mm would have been 60 mm.

Been following this thread w/similar interest; anyone want to take a swag at best value / performing 40mm to 50mm wheel for diverse terrain? Terrain actually covers short climbs (<1k), sustained climbs (3k-6k...if you could call it that), flats and some bumpy stuff. I was originally thinking 38mm but might be shorting myself.

I would be too if I spent anywhere near that kind of $ on wheels.
