I'm seeking any recommendations as to which rim tape to use with a RR440 Asymmetric rim.

The rim is not only wider but the holes are to one side which makes the conventional Schwalbe (recommended) rim tape unsuitable for the RR440 as this tape tends to move around.

I used Pacenti tubeless tape with mine, but the Stan's should work as well. 21mm width.

Thanks for the suggestions Ergott.

Stans is way to expensive and I have little interest in Tubeless at this time.

So if I consider Velox instead, which is the better size to use, 19mm or 22mm?

Go wide because you can always trim down

I didn't recommend the tape because I thought you might plan on going tubeless at any time. I recommend it because it's the correct product to use. If you search on ebay there is a UK seller that sells the tape for less.

The point of the tape is it's very thin, resists shifting and its glossy finish helps tires slip into place easier.

Trust me, I've used the stuff for hundreds of wheels. Do not use Velox.

Yup, Velox is only appropriate for smoothly convexed rim beds but new tubeless-friendly rim profiles like the DT RR440 make Velox completely ineffective - it just won't conform cleanly to the shape.

OK good info.

I've been a staunch Velox person. For now what I've done is wrapped the inside of the rim with insulation tape and reused the old rim tape over the insulation. I will come back to this problem but it seems I have more pressing things to attend to with my wheels. New thread.

Velox 19mm tape is what I put in these rims.

Thx.

Yeas, Ergott is the principal authority on the subject and what he says makes sense.
Velox would also work (as an uber durable, non-WW solution) too.

I am sure the Pacenti tape works fine. Put velox tape in hundreds/thousands of wheels never had a problem, it in all mine too apart from my tubeless ones where I use stans tape mainly based on its availability and what the U.K market wants.

You are using Velox with tubeless ready rims?

I can't see any reason why it would be better.

yes I put it in tubeless rims without issue. I did not say it is better it's cheaper and does not move that to me makes a winner. If the customer wants to run tubeless one day then the rim tape needs to be changed but that is not hard (also I consider the velox tape practically free as it cost £0.50 per wheel to put on when bought in a 100m roll) so if you have not paid for it changing to tubeless rim tape when you need it is not a problem. Fitting tubeless rim tape adds a real cost to wheels which would have to be paid for. Most roadie folk in the U.K are wedded to tubes due to the poor supply and choice of tubeless tyres here and there expense so they dont need tubeless tape. There is some logic to what I do.

Here you go, knock yourself out.

He's even UK.

Tire fitting is just better with the tape regardless of whether the user has tubeless or standard clincher.
