as per subject this is my plan. i do not race so this is some frivolous stuff here.

anyone with any experience - particularly on Colnago C59? Any photos?

here is bike with current Bora Ones (which roll like crazy).

Image

Found some online and it looks good but perhaps not as good as lightweights.

I am thinking of buying these for the experience of it. My impression is that the Mavic CCU's are very nice wheels.

I currently have Bora One's 35 (2015) tubs and no complaints. Great wheels. Great dry braking, not so great wet but better than what I've heard reported for most carbon wheels.

If I had my druther I'd buy lightweights. Was thinking Gipfelsturm but based on some recent reading re: importance of aero versus rim weight thinking Millenstein would be a better choice. Am worried Mavic might be releasing updated CCU's soon (wider and more aero) but on other hand that might be why the price of current CCU's is OK (around $2,900 AUD on starbike).

Anything that helps me get up a hill is gold and also anything that helps me get out and ride is gold - hoping that CCU's might tick both boxes.

Any thoughts from those who have owned them (CCU's)? Should I save my pennies and buy the LW's instead?

What is it about the Boras that is holding back your cycling?

Spend the money on a holiday with the bike instead :)

Oh those boras couldn't be holding me back of course. And re bike riding holiday that's a great idea. However with two sets of wheels (bora and ccu) I can be sure of never missing an opportunity for a ride!

Still be interested to hear from anyone about these.

Thanks.

Which differences do you expect from the CCU compared to the Bora ?

I agree you don't need to spend any money on wheels. LWs would be lighter and a visual upgrade but Bora is a great performing wheelset already.
OTOH this saddle on this bike hurts my eyes but whatever you like...

If you're not motivated to go out and ride with this bike you have a problem that won't be solved by another pair of wheels

the bora's are great and i don't imagine some dramatic change due to use of CCU's. i guess i am just interested in trying them out really and looking for some enabling on that front.

saddle is very comfortable! spent 6 hours on the bike on sunday and not a problem. it is terribly heavy though. if i could get something similarly shaped that was lighter i'd give it a shot.

I don't understand why you need two pairs of wheels with such a similar profile (35mm vs 40mm). Surely something deeper would be more fun?

+1

Then rather the LW added to the Bora as the CCU added to the Bora.

I have a C60 with LW and a pair of Fulcrum RZ Nite and if I had to add another apir of wheel I only could imagine having the Bora35

good point re: similar depth. that does it. one day i'll get some LW's but for now I will take the first poster's advice and put extra money into cycling holidays.

May I recommend putting some black housing for your cables. Unless you're really digging them in white, I think the less visible the better (that's why we hide them!). In the same time you'll check the front brake housing length, you could chop 2cm there.

Don't want to give you lesson or sound smartass, just sharing opinions. Cheers.

Go for the CCUs!

They are cheaper than LWs and as good / better / close

They have a nicer ride quality than boras due to the carbon spokes

But they wont' make you faster of course

thanks @Samuel Sanchez Gonzalez i appreciate the feedback. i know what you mean about white on black but i think i sort of do like it. as you say though what are all these internal routed cables for if i'm going to contrast colour with frame. and it is definitely too long i suppose. i'm definitely interested in how it looks but i don't know if i have perfectionist tendencies in that area.

@ Sawyer - that was exactly the sort of enabling i was after but too late. the previous comment about a similar depth to the bora's got me and i cancelled the order. however, as these things tend to, i have now ended up going for what i probably really wanted and will soon with any luck be trying out some LW's. and i know - it is perhaps a shame, but none of this stuff makes you faster.
