Man those things are worn for only 6000km. I would be looking to replace them if they where mine.

I've got a set of Open Pro's that have done 10000km and they hardly look worn. No idea what my old MAVIC MA 40's have done but the brake track is only just wearing through on the anodising. And these are rims I commute on.

Looking on the plus side, I can talk to the wheel builder about lighter spoke options this time round.

In winter only riding I have killed a DT Swiss rim in 3000 miles. U.K road are covered in crap. If you do not clean the rim and brake pads after ever ride (I certainly dont) you pay for it with premature rim wear. No way around this. Aluminium alloy is not hard the sand and grit on the road is harder!

H Plus Son had got back promptly:
"It’s time to change your rims now! Quick!"

I'm not knocking these rims/wheels. They've had a tough year and have been awesome. Rear wheel is getting rebuilt exactly the same.

I wore through a set of AC Victory wheel rims in 10 weeks last winter. Roads covered in mud and doing 100 mile rides.
Re-rimmed them with SL23 rims - same ERD - they're far better wheels now

10 weeks, yikes! Been looking at riding in Yorkshire but it sounds like it'll be more than just the train ticket that's expensive.

Might be worthcutting a chunk out of the old rims, just to see what you had left!

Roads are now pretty clean so problem resolved until next November. Can't recommend the riding around here enough - lovely quiet roads and scenery. We have some proper hills too ;)

And the wheel is dead.
Doing an event in the Surrey Hills today and the rim started to buckle along the brake track in one location. Took a couple of hefty potholes to instigate it but had front brake only for the final 100K.

Svetty - I'll not take them on lightly!

mattr - I'm almost scared to do that!
