So a mate sold me a 24h chinese carbon 50mm rim which I want to build into a cheap rear wheel for some hard use and abuse. Any ideas for cheap and light hubs?

The other idea we had would be to triplet lace it to a 32h hub (6800 ultegra was first thought, although not too light) but was wondering whether this would be strong enough.

Hard use and abuse vs. cheap and light hub??

Doesn´t sound like a good idea....

A lot of these rims get laced to Novatec.

or buy some rear -old model- wheel just for hub ;) this way rear DT240 cost me <50$ there's plenty of good options : Easton, Mavic, DT, Fulcrum… . Just avoid "weird" lacing .

I can be wrong, and have plenty of examples for that ;)

Yes, and you can get them drilled for triplet.

+1 for BikeHubStore if you are in the US (same mold as Bitex hubs) or Novatec otherwise. I have abused both hubs plenty now. Bikehubstore is my go-to source for road, rim-brake hubs. For disc-brake, Novatec has some attractive hub options and I have a few thousand problem-free miles now on a road-disc wheelset built on Novatec XD711/D712 hubs.
