So why would this rim be lighter than the xc-279? They're similar shapes I presume, is the other rim just thicker?

Seems odd to me as well that it's around the same weight as the XC279. Obviously something in the cross section needs to be a little thinner for that to be true.

Yeah, the walls must be quite thin. The spoke bed looks reasonably thick, though. My front (24h) rim came in at 463g. Haven't weighed the 28h yet.
