I have several old wheelsets lying around that I wear out during the winter. Dura Ace hubs, 32 3x DT Revolution spokes, Ambrosio Excellence or Mavic Open Pro rims. They just don't seam to wear out. And the hubs are easily and cheaply serviced.
Can't imagine spending money on a new 'winter specific' set...

I have worn out rims in winter use only in 3000 miles, my DT Swiss RR415 front wheel is that wheel. To me s winter specific set is something that uses a low cost rim that you can afford to replace and a hubset that can cope with lots of water without the need for constant maintance, Miche Primato, Shimano ultegra e.t.c nothing fancy as when it is cold wet and dark it really does not matter what you are riding just so long as it gets you round.
