Recently the board software has been updated and there are some known bugs/failures:
- Avatars are currently not being displayed ✔ FIXED
- Tapatalk connection is currently broken ✔ FIXED
- Avatars cannot be uploaded ✔ FIXED

Please note that we will soon do some changes in WW board template design in case to get a fully mobile/desktop responsiveness board!

Hi guys,

Hoping for some advice as my head is frazzled trying to decide what wheels to get!

Basically I want to purchase a set of wheels that will satisfy my road bike needs as well as being able to use them for the odd club tt I do. I also have a powertap that I would like to build into the rear wheel build. Unfortunately it is a 32 hole tap.

I'm considering buying a set of 50mm deep carbon rims from China (aware of the dangers re heat build, happy with supplier etc) with 24h front and 32h rear so that the tap can be used. I'd probably use a wheel cover on the rear for the tts. So what do you guys think? Will the fact that the rear is 32h make a massive difference? If so I'm thinking I might be better trying to sell the tap and buying one to fit a 24h wheel (or a dura ace crank perhaps). Also do you think the 50mm deep is a good compromise to allow me to use the wheels for tting and road use (especially given that I will be using a cover)?

32 spokes will not cause a major drag penalty.

Also, I ride 50mm wheels every day and they are just fine in all conditions.

The cover is a good choice as well

If you are concerned about 32 spokes you could also built you rear wheel with a 8:16 pattern.
I'm not a specialist in this matter, so maybe other can give their opinion on this.

Interesting option that 16:8

Is there a reference to how the lacing should be and how to calculate spoke length ?

Thanks TimmS. I did look at that option, but had concerns about fitting a square peg in a round hole and ending up with a less than optimal solution.

What model Powertap is it and how heavy are you? The flanges on a PT are odd sizes and usually the more spokes the better in my opinion.

Here you can find a spoke calculator able to handle 16:8 lacing.

The lacing is quite simple, but this description unfortunatly is in german only. Maybe the picture tells enough.

I think that a standard 32 spoke with 2 or 3 cross lacing would be the best decision because it is really simple and also very strong.

Just make sure to use bladed spokes of some kind.
