Hello,

I got a set of 24 and 28hole SL23's

The holes appear to me to be very close to center, actually making me a bit paranoid that I lace them wrong.

Anyway, when looking at the hole on the outer of the rim, that hole can be seen to be closer to one side.
should that closer rim side be the side towards that hub side ?

Thanks,

L

thanks much, it appears the holes are center drilled but angled as illustrated.
Used a nipple and spoke to check.

This makes me think that I might have built my wheels the wrong way around. So far I haven't noticed any issues and the wheels have done about 4,500 km. Rims are Hed C2 with Sapim CX Rays.

On Fairwheel's site it says the 24h rim is NOT drilled at an angle but all the other drillings are?

^ Indeed, and the 24h I received from Fairwheel last week was in fact angle drilled.

Ok now I've thoroughly confused myself as I have previously used Sheldon Brown's wheelbuilding website to lace my wheels. This of course gives the advice that
Quote:
The spoke holes do not run down the middle of the rim, but are offset alternately from side to side. The holes on the left side of the rim are for spokes that run to the left flange of the hub.

Which is not correct for a Hed rim as it uses angled rim drillings.

Anyone got an alternative wheel-building page that is suitable for angled drillings? I don't have the intellectual capacity to reverse engineer the Sheldon brown guide at the moment. I've just had retinal surgery and building the wheel for an hour or so gives me a headache.

EDIT : I just ordered Roger Musson's book.
