Maybe a rider that doesn't want to puncture as often as other brands of tubular, one that doesn't want to run carbon clinchers but still wants a reliable tyre, a rider that wants lower weight than clinchers without as much hassle as other tubular brands, one that wants better aerodynamics than other brands, one that wants better grip in the wet? About the only reason not to run them is ride quality.

No, try to keep up. The casing of Continental tyres is more puncture resistant. And Continental tyres by and large are more aerodynamic than their competition. The fact they contain a butyl tube is possibly the only negative if your main criteria is comfort and ride quality.

You made an idiotic statement and several posters have called you on it.

@RM27, nope. Never flatted a Conti Comp. Not even the old, gray-colored, pre-Vectran ones. with respect to wear, it depends upon how much I ride them. I tend to swap wheels and bikes around a lot, so it is hard to say. For sure, many seasons.

Putting a latex inner tube into them is not going to change neither their comfort level nor their ride quality. They tried that already.

Let's for a moment imagine these tyres did not come with a Vectran anti-puncture belt. That there was no Black Chili compound.....
Where would these tyres be without those two single attributes?

+1. I have Conti 'Pro Limited' tubulars with latex tubes. I can honestly say that I cannot tell the difference in 'feel' (from the saddle) between the latex and the butyl tubes. The advantage of latex tubes, in my experience, is that they are less prone to puncture from pinch-flats. The big difference between the Conti offerings and the 'hand-made' tires is the suppleness of the casing and the tread, not the latex tube.

LOL - Cont tubs sill proving controversial

... not sure about the more aerodynamic (maybe 22mm standard vs 23?) ...

but they are consistently flat resistant and very round so mount nice and true

they have their place ...

best thing is to have several sets of tubular wheels and then you can have
conti/CGs on one set and nice pairs on the others.

I have vittoria tubs and love the ride and I have conti tubs and love how long they last. Swings and roundabouts. I do find conti tubs to be rounder though and alot easier to make straight.

Sounds very odd ... what are the physics behind that one????
