Archetype question
Moderator: robbosmans
Looking at rims and came across this statement from DCR-Wheels
H Plus Son have the sa at a 20:24 lacing on this rhyme will hold a rider of up to 200lbs or 91kg.
Now that I weigh just over 91kg. Should I choose 24/28h instead of 20/24?
They will probably be thrown on a set of Hope Mono RS as CK R45 11speed not seem to be in stock with AVT right away.
What do the pundits out there say?

Yes, go higher spoke count. No need to push the envelope to save 20 grams when you are heavy rider, this might cost/hurt a lot

I'd go 24/28. Flexible wheels aren't fun.

The archetype is stiff but not stiff enough for 20F/24R for your weight. A 24F/28R built up with CX-rays will be as stiff as the lower spoke count built with sapim race and be the same weight. Higher spoke count make sense here.
If you want 20F/24R pick a stiffer rim, Pacenti SL23 or Kinlin XC-279 even then if you want long spoke life go with 24F/28R or 20F/28R You get the idea.

Where would later version Stans Alpha 340s (20/24) fit in this scale?
24/28 it is.
Thanks a bunch!

Those would be the least stiff by a good margin. I'd put the Archtype and SL23 at a tie, with the XC279 the stiffest.

I think that the SL23 is a better rim than the Archetype. It's wider, deeper, and still lighter than the H Plus Son and it has a nicer finish.

My own experience of the archetype and SL23 is the SL23 at 28 holde drilling with the same hubs and spokes takes more sideload to slacken NDS spokes than the archetpe does. I agree the Kinlin XC-279 is even stiffer.
I am a heavier rider about 100kg and I am considering to have a pair of wheels build with the Archetype rim using the 28/32 configuration. What kind of hubs and spokes should I consider using or what do you guys recommend in terms of wheels for someone my size. recreational rides up to 120 kms usually no crits or races here ..
Thanks

@StreetR- If I were you I'd lace up your Archetypes to the T11s from White Industries. They aren't super popular on here because they come in at 345 grams for the set, but I've found them to be outstandingly durable even for larger riders such as ourselves. Those laced with Sapim Lasers 3x all around would be more than stout enough for your weight. I'd also recommend going with brass nipples on the DS, or even all around if you don't mind the extra 15 grams.
