That stuff is truly nasty, and not only is it bad for you, but also your unborn children:

Human health hazards : May cause cancer. May cause heritable genetic damage. Also harmful: may cause
lung damage if swallowed. Irritating to respiratory system. Repeated exposure may
cause skin dryness or cracking. Vapours may cause drowsiness and dizziness.
Environmental hazards : Toxic to aquatic organisms, may cause long-term adverse effects in the aquatic
environment.

If it cleans tubular rim glue, it isn't going to be good for you. Period. Always: wear nitrile gloves; clean your rims in a well-ventilated area; and, dispose of waste appropriately.

I haven't seen a safety data sheet for Schwalbe tubular glue remover. Is there one?

Like @Dual says... Just don't mix it with your gin and you'll be fine. Can't get Schwalbes glue remover in North America anyway, well at least not in the US. There are other adhesive removers that work. I do like to strip my rims clean for each fresh tire. I wouldn't if I had to scrape every last bit off by hand. Mechanics are pressed for time and the pros probably get new wheels before any build up of old glue becomes a problem. Acetone cuts right through nitrile gloves, but I use them and change frequently. I only use acetone for final cleaning of any residue, not for actual glue removal.

I obtained the Schwalbe tubular glue remover safety data sheet. It doesn't look as nasty as other glue removers. Any expert care to weigh in?

i'd never found the msds online, so nice to see the content now

Alkane, C11-15-iso- Alkane, (C9-C12)-Iso- as long as you're not snorting it, eating it or rubbing it all over, it's not going to hurt you, especially as it's mixed into the gel, just wear gloves, use in a well ventilated room, and dispose of responsibly like any you would old oil, paraffin etc.

Orange, süß, Extrakt probably the oil from peel

overall seems pretty innocuous vs. some of the alternatives

Hello,

Schwalbe glue remover is not nastier than goo off or others more volatile solvents if you see from the application. IMO it is much safer. It took me less than 3 minutes to apply it into a rim then come back for 5 minutes wipe after 30 minutes or use pressure wash. This is much better than goo off where I have to keep applying and rubbing the glue. The exposure to scwhalbe glue remover is way less than if I use other products. I am not sure whats the formula but I smell a bit of citrus de-greaser rather than any petroleum products. If you guys in NA, PM me, I know where to get it.

That's what I like about it. You brush it on, let it do the work for you, then you scrape all the stuff off and that's that.

Ciao, ;)

Why don't you just post where we, in North America, can get it right here. I've been using a product for adhesive removal including mastiks from Kleen Strip, but I'd like to be able to try the Scwalbe stuff to see if it's any different. Sounds like it might be less harsh.

Hi,

If it's not against forum rule, I get it from here and I am not affiliated:

What is the point of removing all of the old glue? Large gobs for sure, but the new glue will reactivate the old adhesive. I use a dull knife to remove the large chunks.

For what it's worth, the pros don't seem to stress too much about some old glue residing on the rim.

How awesome is the mustard squeeze bottle glue application!

If you're changing to a different (formulation of) glue - that would be one reason.

I ordered some of that schwalbe remover, will see how it goes next time.

I normally use Goof-Off. Get an old rag/throw away and get it soaked real well, and just start going over the rim..keep turning the rag inside out due to adhesive coming off. Doesn't take but 10-15 minutes and maybe 2 small micro fiber rags to get it perfectly clean. Then use some acetone to get it really spotless, clean up any residue.

Just have ventilation and some gloves.
