Just idly comparing these hubs...

The weights I've seen quoted are:

6800 - 158g/336g
9000 - 121g/234g

...which makes me wonder how the difference is so great. Any thoughts on these? Anyone built some up? I've always liked Shimano hubs for their no nonsense quality.

Ultegra use a steel axle and steel freehub body. Dura ace use different parts. Apart from that they are very similar. Also ultegra is still 32H and 36H where as Dura ace is 24H-36H. There are cheaper and lighter alternative to ultegra hub that do the job just as well - Miche but Dura Ace hubs are simply perfect.

Figured it'd be something like that.

Was just looking at Shimano as I've just built my bike with 9000 and might want a more weather resistant rear wheel than my race set, which are on BHS hubs. Also I can get them trade very easily as my shop uses Madison on a weekly basis.

I do like the look of the Miche Primato Syntesi. Not sure if the 11 speed version is available here yet though...

I talked to Chicken today and the 11 speed Miche is coming in the next week or so FWIW. Tempting, as they're half the price of Ultegra.

I stock the Miche hubs in mixed drillings and 11 speed but I buy mine from Miche as I get drillings that chickens do not do. like 28F/32R and individual hubs.
