I am asking for some advice in my case - i need a light but aero front wheel for some hilly time trials to complement my lightweight disc.
Profile of the TTs are shark tooth like with flat space between teeths. The flat space is a place where i want to benefit from aero properties. I want it to be between 45 and 75 mm tubular rim.
I prefer to have classic spoked wheel - so lightweight, madfiber and tri or quad spokes are out of question.
Right now i am considering:
3t mercurio 60
zipp 404 fc
custom build based on enve SES 6
custom build based on taiwan u shaped rims
reynolds 58/72 aero
easton aero 55
custom build based on Mercury M5 + dash hubs
I would be glad to hear opinions on above choices or alternate propositions

Mavic CC Ultimate?

Enve SES 30mm, custom built?

What would your average speed be on the hilly segments?

If faster than ~20kph then go with the most aero thing you have.

Otherwise go with the second most aero wheel you have but a tad lighter.

Tapeworm, most aero what i have is 90mm front wich is on the heavy side (weights near the same than my lightweight rear disc)

my speed on the climb (going up) will be equal or exceed 20 kph

But Tapeworm's point is correct. If the hills are not steep enough that you are off the aero bars and maybe also standing (depending on riding style) then aero > light weight.

I would also encourage testing on the aero wheel vs the lightest wheel you have on similar (or preferably the same) gradient. Weight in wheels is blown a little out of proportion, especially when there is a XX kg rider thrown into the system.

I would shoot for a SES 6.7 tub. You might even find it more aero than the 90 you have now - but a lot lighter!! Would sure be a better option on a windy day.

OR if you wanted to widen your range the SES 3.4 tub and you can use it for more things than just TT

My third choice would be 404 FC but I'm not a fan of prebuilt wheels as they are harder to maintain if you damage something (broken spoke, cracked rim etc)

Extralite enve 45? 420g pretty aero and fast. I've got 6.7s and they are a lot heavier than my sp extralite wheels both fast wheels!

Tested the track today, not that bad - only approx 200 m where i have to grab basebar, and no standing.
The problem with enve for me is finding their builder in Poland as overseas builders cannot send Enve to europe :(

I'd go with the Enve SES 6 and lace it to an Alchemy ELF. That would be a super aero wheel that wouldn't be too heavy.
