This one of the things I have been working on for the last year and half. I have test wheels with 3500 miles on them so far that shows no wear on the black brake surface at all. This is not a ceramic coating or other type of spray on coating.

So can it be used on carbon brake surfaces? Does it have any thermal insulative properties is it possible to roughen it for better brake pad grip? What type of process is it?

No, it can only be done on aluminum.

No, not really, it was developed to stop wear not protect against heat.

Yes, but it would need to be done to the rim before the finish is applied. This finish is actually in the metal not on top like a coating. So if it is applied there would be no way to rough up the metal without wearing the black finish completely off.

It is a secret, I will tell you that it is very similar to the Mavic Exilith process but not quite the same. The process is not what actually makes the rim black, the rim is dyed first and then the process is done which impregnates a super hard material into the grain structure of the aluminum but if the rim was not dyed first it would still just be silver. So theoretically I could make the rim any color and that color would not wear off but I don't think there is a market for multi colored rims that the brake surface stays that color.

I wouldn't write that off. It's pretty cool idea!

Wow!! When will this process be available? If you did this to some Pacenti sl23, I'd buy them tomorrow
