Reynolds RZR 46

What are the opinion of those who have ridden this wheel? I see an advertised weight of 968g on the Reynolds site but sub-900g elsewhere? :noidea:

More specifically, what would these feel like compared to a set of sub-1100g 2009 Reynolds DV 46T ULs that do not have the "swirl lip generator". I am most interested in stiffness climbing out of the saddle and stability in crosswinds down big descents. I like the stiffness of my DV 46s but crosswinds on the front wheel on fast downhills always spook me.

I have both RZR's and 46's , the RZR's are more vertically stiff so you definitely feel that through the bars , they are also noisier.
They feel faster due to the reduced weight and extremely smooth hubs , the crosswinds performance is the same as the 46's
They are easier to accelerate and keep at speed, whether they are worth the premium is questionable.

The rzr wheelset with cassette, bolt on skewers and veloflex extreme tubulars with tufo tape = 1.686kg

The 46's with with cassette, bolt on skewers and veloflex extreme tubulars with tufo tape = 1.936kg

I have RZR Teams. They pick up and hold speed incredibly well, and they're plenty stiff for out of the saddle efforts. Haven't really had issues with crosswinds (up to 35mph) and would definitely recommend them.

I wonder if the team version feels drastically different than the non-team version. My DV 46 ULs come in at 1095g so I assume those probably ride similarly to the team RZRs. I put on some new tubulars this past weekend but beforehand made sure all of the old glue and crud was off of the rim as I feel slight imbalances/hops in the rims when rotating fast was the real culprit in my lack of confidence on fast descents. I raced them this past weekend in windy conditions that included a big downhill, and needless to say, no issues. :D

Now really interested in finding out how I can check out the RZR 46 in person.

My 14yo 130# kid found them flexi in training, but said they raced OK. 1370g pair with Veloflex Record 22 tires glued - about 100 miles on them.

I think they will need to go back to Reynolds in Utah for servicing

Yes that's what the dealers are saying
I have not had a wheel set that I could not do the work my self.
Mad Fibers~Old Light weights etc
I can see in the front hub it looks like it has no axle just pressed in cups ?
I was hopping that somebody out there has worked on these before and could give me a few tips.
My shop has pullers and arbor press with lots adapters made up over the years.

Apparently there is no lubricant in the rear hub, so there is not much to service other than replacing the ceramic bearings.

This article my shed some light on the the hub design, half way down the page they mention the bearings are pressed into a inner carbon sleeve which moulds around them and then this inner sleeve is bonded to the outer.

I notice that on the hub shafts there is some very fine threads, maybe these are used with some sort of proprietary bearing puller tool.
You may also need to break the bond between the inner and outer carbon hub shells to get the bearings out and then re bond the hubs again with the new bearings in place.
Given that the bonding of the inner hub shell to the outer shell is the truing mechanism for the wheel, this would be hard to do without the right equipment and process.
