hey guys

need a 30mm rim, so choosing between the ubiquitious XR 300 or the DT swiss 585. both in 24 h

I know this is weight weenies, and the kinlin is alomst 100g lighter, which tips the scales towards that direction.

but I've also heard the 585 is a reall tough and reliable rim. I'd like to know if there is anything going for the DT swiss 585?

I think you did a good job of answering your own question... Unless you need the extra strength and stiffness, the XR300 is fine.

Is this a rebuild? Why do you need a 30mm rim?

I see no reason to not go with the Kinlin. That is a stout rim that is quite rigid even in its lower spoke counts.

yes, this is a rebuid to match a front 30mm. this wheelset is my 'do-it-all' train and race wheelset.

FYI: my weight is 66kg, so I'm hardly the largest guy around. I race, but I'm more of a long-climbs-diesel-engine sort of guy.
cost wise it's a non-issue, with both rims at less than $10 difference.

I'm planning to build the wheel on a existing 24 hole hub ( a rather beefy one too, 290g) , laced 2x. would that be stiff enough on the kinlin rim?
