hi guys,
instead of a 3.4 or a 6.7 SES, i would like to know if someone has ever thought about a 4.6 combination on ENVE SES wheels.
i know the 3 and the 6 rims are narrower than 4 and 7 rims.
but i was thinking about a better balance between (light) weight and aero benefit, then came to mind a 4.6 setup.
what would you say? BTW, i am talking about the CLINCHER version.

The front rims are wider than the rear rims. 4.6 set would have a 24 spoke 4 up front and a 20 spoke 6 for the rear. Not what I would do. Perhaps a 3.7 where you use a 3 front and a 7 rear. A lighter rider could use 3.6 and have a 20 spoke rear, but I think 24 spokes is better for most riders. The exception being the 8.9s where the rim is stiff and much taller at 95mm.

PS
3 = 35mm F
4 = 45mm R
6 = 60mm F
7 = 70mm R
8 = 85mm F
9 = 95mm R

I had a similar thought too. I would really like a 4.6.

But I guess I will have to just get both 3.4 & 6.7 :D :D :D :D

I'd go with a 3.7 combo. We did a 3.3 build once (which obviously was a 20/20) but that was for a much lighter rider.

The 6.9 build that Fairwheel did looked pretty sweet though.

actually, i think the 3s are too low and the 6s are too high for the aero and weight charactheristics i intend to achieve.

that's why i would like to see the release of a 4.6 system from ENVE.

it would make a nice combo to lace a powertap G3 hub and convert to tubeless, in my opinion.

probably a blockbuster this way...

I think a 4.6 would be are great set.

The 3.4 & 6.7 fit a specific criteria and purpose, but a 4.6 would really be a great compormise for the general rider who wants a little of everything.

I wonder if it's coming :?:

I think you guys are over thinking this. Enve knows a think or two about wheels design. It's not like the 6.7 set is heavy. Try a set sometime. I don't now why you think you are more qualified to design a set of wheels.

Haha yea my 6.7s with alchemys roll in at 1440g
But they are my goto wheels for most riding..
I also have a set of extralite 45s at 990g and they don't see any where near as much riding as the 6.7s

The 6.7s get the nod in big winds... 30-50kph and the extralite wheels only for massive climbing days

Johhny Bravo I wondered the same thing as you after spending 2 weeks on a borrowed set of 6.7. They are nice wheels and I would buy them, but they are just a bit more then I wanted. The front was great in cross winds on flat and rolling roads, but I personally did not like them for high speed decending here in CO (we get a lot of swirling winds in the canyons). I think a 5.6 would be good with me, but a 4.6 would be good too. Most of the other companies do offer a more consistent choice across wheels depth like HED or Zipp.

ergott speaking for myself I do not know more about wheels than ENVE or what sells. But I do know more about what I personally like. For me if I had two sets of race wheels a 3.4 and a 6.7 would be awesome. But divorce and college for 2 kids is expensive. So I am the typical guy with a set of training wheels and only one set of race wheels. So for me the 6.7 are just a little deep as my only race wheels that need to be used for all conditions.

That's were I would consider a 3.7.

You don't have to use the pairs only in 3.4, 6.7, and 8.9 configurations. 3.7 and 6.9 are great combinations too. I just don't think that having 6 different rim depths for both front an rear is necessary. Offering 35mm, 60mm, and 85mm depths for the front and 45mm, 70mm, and 95mm depths for the back covers a lot of needs.

ok guys, here's what i ended up with: zipp 303 FC CC in front, enve SES 4 CC with PTap G3 on rear.
that's the setup i use for everyday training.
also, an extra zipp 404 FC rear tubular for when the ocasion demands.

this way i can Always have a 45mm wheel on the front and the choice of 45mm or 60mm on the rear.

btw, running a tubeless setup - with yellow veloplugs and rubber rim tape (used 20" inner tubes - that was the only way to seal the setup completely)

Yep! Way over thinking this one. It seems to me that a 3.4 SES would be the same thing? I would guess that some of the best composite and aerodynamic engineers know what they are doing....
