I'm considering building another rear wheel or maybe just replacing the rear hub on one of my wheels with the shimano Dura Aco 9000. I want the titanium free hub body, because the cassettes are ruining the DT 240s body.

But why is there a version for aero spokes and a version for regular spokes? Aero spokes like Sapim CX-Ray and DT Aerolite fit into regular hubs anyway. What kind of spokes is the aero spoke version meant for?

Some aero spokes (i.e. DT) have a flatter profile. So the hub holes need to be shaped differently to allow these spokes. For you just get the regular hubs.

Thanks. Are you referring to the DT New Aero spokes with 3.3 mm bladed section?

No. I was thinking about the old school flat and bladed spokes that were once popular. I'm not familiar with the current crop of aero spokes like the Sapins. All my wheels are either Mavic, Shimano, or Campy factory built wheels.

Will the aero spokes version fit regular spokes as well?

A picture is worth a thousand words.

Image

The slotted spokeholes on the left will take anything up to 3.3mm wide, like the spoke closest to it.
The regular spokeholes will take anything up to 2.3mm wide.

Spoke profile has nothing to do with it, the 2.4mm spoke hole wil readily accept a Pillar PSR 1423, which is the most rectangular bladed spoke I know.

The cn494 is 3mm wide though not many modern models are that wide any more.

I wish Shimano would release the updated DA hubs. I'm itchin to build a set on them.

Does anyone have any information on these? I called Shimano and the rep had no idea on what the specs for the new version will be. If they're just going to change to the paint fade scheme I'd rather pick up a set of the black ones now.

Is there a new model underway? How do you know that?

I mean, the hub is perfect the way it is now, how would they make it better!!

Well, the new Scylence freewheel, and 20f24r spoke counts would be superb.

I'd settle for a 20h front.

Shimano did 12 spoke hubs too i think they should bring them back the work fine wih the right rims.

Never seem the new 9000 hubs in aero spoke form.

Probably won't happen. Shimano makes more money selling you one of their factory built wheelsets with only 16 spokes on the front wheel. Higher profit is the driving force behind the death of hand made wheels.
