A minor "setback" dealing with ICAN. I found e 56mm clincher on Aliexpress.com thru ICAN Sports for $499 and free shipping. I thought to my, "score!" - I'll be able to grab these wheels cheaper than originally quoted. The price Peggy and I had "negotiated" was $519 shipped to the USA, including all PayPal fees, etc.

Instead of leaving well enough alone, I had the idea to bring this to Peggy's attention in the hope that I could talk her down a bit more. At least match the price was my thought. Well, she said that she spoke with her manager and $519 was the lowest they could go - which of course is just comical since its cheaper on aliexpress (which also has a few guarantees, etc). Next thing I know, the listing on aliexpress.com has been removed.

Looks like I may have screwed a few of us out of saving about $20 or so on this deal. I guess in hind sight I shouldn't have said anything. Greed got the better of me.

Has anybody ordered these wide rims from HongFu? Nancy says that they ship them every day!

Well I finally got my 56T's from Hongfu yesterday, they were actually delivered to the UK after 8 days but Parcelforce screwed up and I didn't get them until today. I haven't been able to weigh them as I don't have any accurate scales at the moment, (I know this is weight weenies), hopefully the pictures will give a better idea of the shape etc.

I don't think they bulge quite as much as the Firecrest profile they are apparently trying to copy but they definitely seem like a nice rim. Waiting on spokes to get them built up.

@williamh2777 - would it be too much to ask what you paid for them? After all, HongFu was the one quoting ~$400usd for just the rims, when others were quoting there about for the complete wheelset. I'm hoping for some clarity on the matter. Cheers.

What size tires do you plan to mount on those? I'd be interested to know how a 23mm tire fits in that wide tire bed.

I paid £256 with delivery to the UK which I thought was fair as PlanetX sell their carbon rims for about £125. I went with Hongfu as they looked to have the rim profile that matched the zipps most closely, although it's likely that several sellers are selling the same rim. They weren't doing them as full wheels when I bought them.

Not sure, haven't thought too much yet but I think 23's should be OK they, work fine on other wide rims.

I hope this is the right topic to ask the question- not sure it warrants its own threat- has anybody tried the November Rail? Looks like a good option for those who want most of the Zipp/ He'd/ Enve tech at a lower price...

the first Rail hasn't been to any customers yet, so the responses you'll get would be from their testers...and you can read the feedback on the November blog?

Ah thanks. I actually spoke to a nice guy at Strada (the uk importer) who said they were great, but its always interesting to hear from customers. I look forward to hearing about them once they're delivered

Has anyone been quoted a price for a 56mm or 40mm complete wheel set build from Hong Fu?

Nothing from HongFu yet, although these wheels finally show listed on uamcycling.com, without any prices however.

Nevertheless, this is the most recent email from Kathy @DengFu. It shows hub and spoke options for all the various depths of these rims ::

1) The wheelset Novatec Come With 494 F271SB & F372SB spoke + CN nipple, 7g/pc (+ 1pc spoke nipple)
40mm tubular wheels is $ 320.00/set
56mm tubular wheels is $ 337.00/set
86mm tubular wheels is $ 398.00/set
40mm clincher wheels is $ 382.00/set
56mm clincher wheels is $ 398.00/set
86mm clincher wheels is $ 460.00/set

2) The wheelset Novatec Come With 494 F291SB & F482SB spoke + CN nipple, 7g/pc (+ 1pc spoke nipple)
40mm tubular wheels is $ 341.00/set
56mm tubular wheels is $ 357.00/set
86mm tubular wheels is $ 419.00/set
40mm clincher wheels is $ 402.00/set
56mm clincher wheels is $ 419.00/set
86mm clincher wheels is $ 480.00/set

3) The wheelset Novatec Come With 424 CN F482s F291s & spoke + nipple, 4g/pc (+ 1pc spoke nipple)
40mm tubular wheels is $ 382.00/set
56mm tubular wheels is $ 398.00/set
86mm tubular wheels is $ 460.00/set
40mm clincher wheels is $ 443.00/set
56mm clincher wheels is $ 460.00/set
86mm clincher wheels is $ 521.00/set

The shipping cost to USA is $65.00 ( one wheelset ) 115.00 ( two wheelsets )

**Edit**

I asked which rims were actually "in stock" and they had them all except both the 86mm tubular and clincher. Apparently that wheel is going to use the EPS moulding system, maybe for strength at the depth (?) - does anyone know what this method is? I know helmets are made of EPS foam, but I'm not sure that's the same thing here.

Either way, DengFu is offering choices with these rims, which is nice. Most others are not.

thanks for the price list. those prices look very competitive.

did you discuss rim-only options or alternate drillings (outside of the standard 20/24) with Kathy?
