I'm going to buy a pair of 27mm wide profile carbon wheels...I spoke with Nancy from HongFu, she said 479$ for 56mm Tubular wheelset...Tony from DengFu told me about the same wheels so mounted 56T rims + CN spoke 424 and nipples + Novatec A291/F482SB hubset...the price is 398$...is it the same product in your opinion? what do you recommend to me? Thank you very much!

Each trading company will tell you that they are a factory and produce these rims. I have concluded that this isn't indeed true. Dengfu, Hongfu, HonorBike, MiracleBike, and even Carbonzone are just resellers or trading companies as they're apparently called in China.

I'm still unsure about who actually makes this rim and sells it to these trading companies, but either way there is no possible way that these wheels are different from one another. What is different are the wheelset building practices, etc. I've heard great things about Dengfu and their options for wheelsets appear to be the best of the lot. Also, their prices are better.

Last Friday I asked light-bicycle about new 45mm U-shaped tubeless rim..they can build a complete wheelset whit these rims.. For the spokes, it’s black bladed pillar psr x-tra 1420 aero (4.3g/pcs for 260mm) and black/red/blue/green/gold pillar alloy light nipples. Hubset choise: novatec, bitex, powerway or rotaz. The price is USD560/pair + shipping (USD78 for one wheelset to Italy, in my case)..
they sent me some photos..
Now I just have to choose between light-bicycle 45mm or DengFu 56T aero..

RobJ wrote:@ItalianJob - I have my DengFu's sitting right here gluing up and I did a lot of research and followed the advice here. I don't see how the two aren't the same wheelset and they definitely wouldn't be $80 different enough. Plus I liked DengFu's use of the Novatec hubsets.

I have a set of 404 FC tubulars here too and the DengFu's are pretty close 8).

allenpg wrote:So, a quick ride report after 1 training ride and 1 race. Please note that this for the rims rebuilt into my own wheels and not the stock wheels from Carbonzone. The rims were noticeably more stable in crosswinds than my older V shaped 50mm rims. I did a 60 min crit tonight on an old runway with a rough surface and hit a few potholes. The wheels were great. I ran 107 PSI rear and 102 PSI front on Vittoria Open Corsa CX clinchers. At these pressures and rims, they felt like tubulars. I felt very comfortable cornering and was impressed with the ride quality. The rims are a slightly heavier than the 404 FC, but great quality and performance for the $$$.

Zigmeister wrote:Ok, recieved the HongFu 40mm Clincher Wide/Aero in UD finish today.

These are being sent off to Fairwheel to have Alchemy UL Rear and Elf Hubs with CXRays built up.

I don't have a scale, so I will have them weigh each rim, then the wheels/wheelset once built for me and will post up that info when I got it and completed build.

At this point, I'm very impressed with the quality of the rims. I have a set of Stradalli 50mm Clinchers which I sanded the fugly logos off of, and also had some Boyd tubulars in the past. The quality of these is on par with those, and nearly my Zipp 303 FC. My Zipps are tubulars and obviously the weight/aero quality of those are above and beyond almost anybody else's rims in the industry. But the for money it will cost to build these, I think it will be a win-win. If these turn out nice, I will likely get another set in tubular, maybe deeper depth, when HongFu has them and have them built the same, then just sell my 303FCs.

@RobJ, @Zigmeister & @allenpg - I am hoping to see a ride report update after you've had several rides, and I would also love to see pictures of these wheels on your bikes. Let's see some bike porn!!

I hate when I am down to the wire and start getting indecisive! I just unloaded my Stinger 6 setup because the wheel was making contact with my chainstay under hard efforts. Those brake tracks were at 28mm and obviously there was room for improvement as far as stiffness is concerned.

The light-bicycle 45mm clincher looks ideal for a front rim for me I just with there was a 55-60mm offering for the rear!
The HongFu 40/56mm clincher combo sounds awesome but they're showing 27mm at the brake! Bah!

Hub offerings are irrelevant. I have some CK R45 hubs to repurpose.

Update, hubs arrived finally. Hopefully in the next 2 weeks will have the wheels and a ride report/photos.

I just registered to this forum to help out in this discussion as i found it to be quite good. I was reviewing all the different wide body chinese rims as well. the best from what I could tell was the Light-Bicycle U-shape 45mm (aka 303 Firecrest copy). The Dengfu ones didn't really interest me much. Kind of a one-off aero design and a bit porky.

I ordered the rims from Light-Bicycle and am having them built up tubeless compatible with no spoke holes, pillar 1420 aero spokes, bitex (aka ed) lightweight hubs with ceramic bearing upgrade. Hoping for sub 1400 gram weight and with that aero profile should be really really nice wheels for less than $700.

I will update on the quality and ride as soon as I get them going. Meanwhile she sent me some new photos of a built wheelset. Looks to be really nice no? Tire bed looks very nicely done. Hope they ride as good as they look.

Light-bicycle U-shaped 45mm rims are very close to Zipp mold profile...while Dengfu/Hongfu rims are closer to Bontrager aeolus D3 mold profile...

Why does this rim appear to not have a brake track? Is Light-Bicycle making rims specifically for use with disc brakes?

The wheels in this photo are assembled with hubs for disc brake, supposedly for cyclocross use.. For this reason do not have the braking track..

Good point, I did not notice that. I kind of like the 56mm Dengfu mold and think that one will perform well but its also heavy. The 40mm did not impress me.

In the end it came down to Light-Bicycle 45mm or the 50mmx25mm mold that Farspots uses that is similar to November. That November Rail 52mm is a very nice looking wheel!

Received Tracking Number: 7/16/2013
Received in US Customs: 7/21/2013
On Doorstep: 7/23/2013

ORDERING

Ordering was simple and all done though email. As is stated on all the forums, but bears repeating, when ordering keep in mind that you are ordering from China and they are likely in a different time zone; don’t expect instantaneous responses to emails. There is also likely a language barrier, so be clear and specific. If you are not specific they may fill in the blanks for you and you may, or may not, like their choices. The order was sent by EMS. Once you have a tracking number that same number should work with USPS tracking - at least it did for me. Both of my orders show going in and out of customs on the same day once they reached the USA.

UNPACKING, INITIAL IMPRESSIONS, WEIGHTS, AND MEASURES

The wheels were packaged very well and securely. There was no damage and in good condition. Everything was as expected and as ordered with the exception of a problem with the rear wheel spokes - three spokes were "wound up". Dengfu is sending me replacement spokes so I'll swap those out once the spokes are received. They use CN Spokes and I can't find a place to order just a few spoke so in hindsight I should have asked for several extra spokes for each wheel.

The front wheel weighed 655 grams and the rear weighed 809 grams without quick releases. The rims measured 25.40mm at the brake track and 27.28mm at the widest point on the rim. Rim depth is 40mm.

Both wheels spin true although the rear has a very slight, almost not noticeable, wobble which I will true up later and I have ridden the bike more. The spokes sounded with very similar tones when plucked.

The brake pads were hard to put on because with the wider wheels I had very, very, little clearance with my older Sram Force brake calipers. I actually sanded the pads down a little bit to get just a millimeter more of clearance to work with.

RIDE

I put 119 miles on the bike over Saturday and Sunday (July 27, 28,) and another 40 on Tuesday over a variety of road surfaces from rough country to smooth concrete city.

I also got an FM066SL frame. I’m coming from a CAAD9 with Neuvation wheels so that is pretty much my only point of reference. Frankly it rides very much like the CAAD9 although the “sound” it makes is different and it does feel like it is absorbing road noise and vibration more so than the CAAD9. I also don’t get any “noodley” feel - it seems like a very stiff frame to me. I sprinted (if you can call it that) and even with the brake pads very, very, close to the wheel I never heard or felt it rub under power. Can I quantify a performance difference whether from the wheels or frame? No - but I like the bike and how it rides and how the wheels feel.
