Hey guys, new to the forum and I thought I'd share my "weight weenie-ization" of my Trek 9800 OCLV (1998). Here is the current and proposed setup:

OLD SETUP:

Control:
Easton EA70 bars
Serfas grips (81g for the pair!)
ControlTech 130mm stem
DiaCompe Aheadset
XT pod shifters/brake lever combo
Marzocchi Z2 bomber fork (HEAVY)
Specialized BG saddle
ControlTech 27.2 seatpost

Drivetrain:
Deore LX FD
Deore XT RD
Sachs chain
XTR Ti rear cassette
Deore LX crankset
UN51 BB (JIS)
PD M-535 pedals (422g for the pair)

Wheels/tires:
XTR hubs/WTB rims/unknown spokes
XTR skewers
Specialized Nimbus EX tires
Specialized tubes w/sealant (heavy)

Brakes:
unknown cantilevers (center pull)

NEW SETUP:

Control:
Aerus MX carbon riser bar
Titec pork rinds grips
Ritchey WCS '05 130mm stem
Token needle bearing headset
XT pod shifters/indicators removed
Cane Creek Direct Curve levers (175g/pair)
Marzocchi Z2 bomber fork (HEAVY)
Velo Ti Saddle
Thomson Elite seatpost

Drivetrain:
XT FD
XTR RD, tuned with Ti pivot bolt, slotted jockey wheels (sealed bearing)
Sachs chain
XTR Ti rear cassette
FSA V-drive triple crankset, tuned w/SRP chainring bolts
FSA Platinum Pro BB, tuned with FSA alloy M15 bolt
Crank Bros. Candy C pedals

Wheels/tires:
XTR hubs/WTB rims/unknown spokes
XTR skewers
Specialized Nimbus EX tires
Stan's tubeless system

Brakes:
Avid SD-7, tuned with Ti pivot bolts

Sorry for the extra-long post. All comments/suggestions welcomed. My eventual goal is to get the bike under 20lb. I know I will need to get a new fork, I've been pricing out used Sid forks on Ebay.

This is a great resource, and I'm sure I'll be frequenting the site regularly. I have a gram scale and I'll be doing a massive post comparing actual weights/prices paid for components and net loss in grams.

RIDE ON!

:welcome: to the board. You will now slowly develop an addiction to it! ha ha

You should post this on the MTB forum, you'll get a whole lot more replies.

a few quick observations...

your Thomson Elite seatpost while very strong is not the lightest...
I'd consider USE Alien Carbon post..

the Sachs chain can be bettered with a KMC-X10 (10 speed chain, but works just fine on 9 speed and off-road).

XTR QR are not light (120g a pair).
Consider Heylight Ti QR at around 55g a pair

Specialized Nimbus EX tires are 600g a piece. I know they have "helpful" "flack jacket" protection.
Why not try Nokian NBX lites? THey are a 480g 2.0 tyre. As opposed to your Nimbus ES 1.5's at 600g.
