I don't know what I'm doing too well but as a hobby at least I'm trying to lighten my bike.
I ride group rides and alone but don't race. Rode 4500 miles this year. I'm 6'2" 181 lbs. and have below average mechanical skills (all this so I don't go too far on the light side into something too flimsy for me or that I would constantly have to tinker with):

Specialized S-Works Tarmac SL4 frame size 58
SRAM Red group throughout (but not sure it is 2012...year unknown)
Except S-Works crankset that turned out to be lighter than the Red crankset
Zipp SLSpeed Stem 80mm (< 102g)
Zipp SL TB bars 44 (~180g)
Stan's No Tubes ZTR Alpha 400 Pro Wheelset (presumably 1250 grams but i question this)
Hutchinson Fusion 3 Tubeless Tires (295g, x2)
Zipp Titanium Skewers
Jagwire cabling
Speedplay zero titanium pedals (82g + 70g, x2)
Specialized carbon cages (x2)
K-Edge garmin mount
Specialized S-Works SL carbon seat post (200g)
Specialized S-Works Toupe Saddle (115g)
SRAM PC 1091 Chain (265g)

The wheelset is probably closer the 1450g or so with that rim. The Alpha 340 build with light hubs would be in the 1200g range.

The first suggestion would be on tires. Those are very heavy and very high CRR. A switch to either Michelin Pro 4 or Vittoria Open Corsa would bring about a huge difference in feel and would take better advantage of a suitably light wheelset.

EDIT: pics or it doesn't exist

Honestly, your build looks great to me. I built my bike the the standards of your, lightweight but with little to no compromise to achieve that weight. There are really no parts on your bike I would change, at least no single part that would significantly drop your weight. If you spend money on anything you might build an uber-light tubular wheelset for special occasions, but your build looks reliable and lightweight to me.

I ignored the tires because I made the assumption that he was running (and enjoyed) tubeless. It is definitely a place he could save weight, assuming he is willing to run light tubes.

Thanks so much for that suggestion. Pic attached but with old wheel set (and probably still the Dura Ace group). Would you go back to the Reynolds Assault?? Or Stan's + the better tire? I can definitely feel the softer ride of these tubeless especially having dropped the pressure from 110 front and rear to 100 rear and 95 front. But I'd tolerate harsher ride if performance would improve.

I'm afraid of making the tubular switch, as I don't have a great support system if I flat....

Standard clincher tires with latex tubes (roughly 30-40g savings per wheel)
Thomson or ENVE seatpost (save 40g+)

The wheels are definitely more 1400 range.

And wow, 80mm stem?

Not sure of your weight, but I run Open Corsa's and latex tubes at 90 front and 100 rear. The ride is as good as tubeless IMHO.....I rode tubeless a while back and wasn't blown away by it.

Yeah, those are traditional bend bars so I'm somewhat stretched out, so I shortened the stem to try and compensate.

The seatpost is a good point. My New Ultimate carbon seatpost (330mm/31.6) came in at 116g.

I have those oversize 7x9mm rails. Is it going to be difficult to find an extralight seatpost that is compatible?

I am running a ritchey superlogic setback, tuned with ti bolts, and cut to 250mm - weighs in at 135g with carbon saddle kit (which adds weight). It is holding my S Works toupe perfectly.
Lightweight seatcollar - MCFK make a good one - 6g.
Tune shifters with either btp clamps (they make me nervous to look at - or - do what i did - replace steel bolts with ti - saved 10g for pair. Or could use Ti dura-ace clamps - but pricey.
I agree on the tires. I am running conti supersonic inner tubes - 50g each with conti gp4000s 207g each. That saves you 90g.

And that photo is of a dura-ace bike, with ritchey c260 stem and reynolds assault wheelset.
