I think he means how far the clamping elements that hold the saddle rails are apart.

Like how much of the wooden stick is between the clamps:

As close as I can measure using a standard tape measure,

The distance between the centers of the two cradles is 1 - 3/32"

The distance between the center of the clamps is 1 - 29/32"

I've decided to switch the crank from the DA-7950 to a Campy SR Ultra torque (2011 version w/titanium spindle) and then remove the decals. This should shave off nearly 100 grams and better match the color scheme. I think the crank will look stunning w/o decals.

Has anyone removed the clear coat and decals on Campy carbon cranks? If so, what technique did you use and how did it turn out? I know Gumgardner has done so on other SR components using a razor; others swear by Carbo Lift, acetone, and various paint removers like Oops. And did you refinish w/ clear coat or carbon wax???

PS: Although I've had a tantalizing offer from a WW member, I'm still searching for the crankset; see http://weightweenies.starbike.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=96462

Made some holiday changes including Campy SR Ti crankset, black KMC X10SL-DLC chain, black PowerCordz Prime cables/housings and black Lizard Skin bar tape. The weight has dropped to 13.45 lbs or 6101 grams.

i do.

i like the DA groupset. however on that particular build, the crankset wouldn't fit (optically). no one would complain about any other crankset like zipp or thm or (...you name it...). so why do you complain about the SR crankset - only because it's a group-mixing-thing, right?! get over it!

he could have chosen a group-neutral crankset, just like a fulcrum racing torq. this is campy too but it has written "fulcrum" on it, so let me guess, that would be ok then?! :noidea:

You need either a full Campy SR group or a Fulcrum crankset. Campy cranks with a DA group on this bike simply does not do it justice.

I switched from the DA crank to the Campy SR to save weight (~125 grams) with at least as good if not slightly improved performance, and for aesthetics as I like its carbon look/coloring with that frame and chain better than the silver DA.

As for mixing components, I'm of the opinion that mixing is fine if done for functional and aesthetic reasons. Why not? We mix components all the time, including wheels, hubs, stems, bars, seatposts, QR releases, brake calipers, chains, cassettes, and, yes, cranks. Who doesn't lust over EE brakes or THM cranks or KCNC titanium cassettes, etc.? The Big 3 brand gruppos contain the full range components, some even including wheelsets. So why do some purists get their aesthetic feathers ruffled with mixing a Campy crank w/ DA derailleurs? They don't seem to mind the Enve wheels or KMC chain or KCNC cassette, each of which could be substituted for DA version.

BTW: as some of you advised me, the Campy 11 speed crank works fine w/ the 10 speed cassette, chain and DA derailleurs. Thanks for the guidance.

The clamps works great so far. No issues, no creaking; very stable/secure. But be advised that I had to file out the grooves to fit the 7x9 rails on the SLR Kit saddle. Easily done, though. I then wrapped the rails in black electrical tape to provide a more secure clamping surface and one that would compensate for any slight surface roughness in the grooves.

I see, so it's not fit and forget... And it's actual weight?
