I had been looking at something new and nice for some time when Giant came along with the Propel. It immediately struck a chord but the prices of the ISP versions where too high for me. Then they came out with the advanced models and I quickly decided the matte black and orange version was the one for me. When looking at it while windowshopping my sister said it looked like the Batmobile so the theme was set. I got one on sale from a friended dealer so I've been running an M/L since September 2014.

It's the most basic version with 10s Shimano 105 and OEM Giant wheels. I went for the colors mostly as these parts are easily upgradable. Even the OD2 stem alone has 6 or 7 suppliers now. Since the cabling runs inside I decided to give 105 a go and upgrade anything when needed/wanted. Up until now it has worked admirably. The brakes are swapped because they didn't clear the 25mm tyres correctly but everything else has been a breeze.
The handling is a bit different to that of the TCR advanced. The Propel is very neutral but tends to understeer when you overcook it in short corners, if you do it in long sweeps it's more likely to oversteer which is nice. The TCR is less oversteered in the sweeps so better for riding gravel or cobbles.

Components
Handlebar Giant Contact swapped for a 3T Ergonova 40cm
Stem Giant Contact swapped to a 130mm version, almost slammed
Seatpost Giant Vector Composite
Saddle Fi'zi:k Arione MG upgraded/swapped to a SLR carbonio
Pedals Speedplay stainless

Drivetrain
Shifters Shimano 105 20 speed swapped for Ultegra
Front Derailleur Shimano 105 swapped for Ultegra
Rear Derailleur Shimano 105 upgraded to a 10s Ultegra plus PFTE cables
Brakes Giant SpeedControl upgraded to Fouriers to run 25mm tyres and get better braking. Also PFTE cables
Brake Levers Shimano 105 swapped for Ultegra
Cassette Shimano 105 12-28 swapped for a Ultegra 12-25
Chain KMC X10L
Crankset Shimano 105 39/53 swapped to 52/38 TA
Bottom Bracket Shimano Press Fit

Wheels
Shimano RS-81 C35 (that pulsate under braking, they'll be going for a check to the dealer soon. Otherwise nice)
Tyres black Michelin Pro4, 700x25mm
Tubes green Michelin latex

Other
Extras RideSense ANT+ transmitter (works well with Mio/Magellan Cyclo 315)
It currently has carbon headset spacers and a headset cover from Giant-Shimano by a fellow WW. It's 4mm lower now which is nice but the amount of fork tube sticking out is getting ridiculous.
For 2015 Giant came out with a rubber gasket to keep dirt out of the seat tube. On the black frame it doesn't even look that bad. I have a couple in stock for interested WW's.

To do list;
- In search of Illness I'd like a set of sexy wheels. Preferably black, max 50mm and wide. Suggestions are welcome!
- New bartape, is in stock but I have to wrap it. Black EVA with leatherlook, a bit classier.done
- Swap bar for a bar with flat top but same bend and maybe go for 40cm. done

Awesome bike and great photos too. Which lights are you all using at the hubs? I wouldn't mind trying something like that out myself. I start a lot of my rides before sunrise and am riding home after dark most of the time when commuting.

Thanks Irdunc

We had the lights on loan from the website below. Marijn de Vries (the lady in in the front) is running 4 strips in the front wheel that make an image when you ride. For commuting I would go for something like a magicshine from China. I've done that on the Propel and TCR and it's a better price per lumen, not half as colorful though.

Most shimano wheels (imo) tend to pulsate. I've used RS-11s and Shimano 6800 wheel set and they both pulsate more than other brands

Thanks all!

@ Frankie,
Thanks for editing, I didn't how to make it smaller.

@ rheosibal,
My Dura-ace C24's have never pulsated but the Rs-81's do. On the workstand I've narrowed it down to a rim issue. It appears that the rim is a little narrower at the welds than the rest of the wheel. I'm curious to see if Shimano says it's outside of the tolerance as that would mean a new set.

I had some parts for an upgrade coming in last week.

The Propel is now Ultegra except for the cranks, I hope to find someting nice for that. Idea's are welcome! The 105 group has performed solid and is now on the TCR with gore-tex cables. The black on black is very nice.

The handlebar was also changed to a 3T Ergonova of 40cm wide but it feels a bit smaller even. Still a very nice upgrade. I do have to set the STI's correctly and re-tape the bar as it could be nicer. 40cm feels perfect so it's likely to stay.

Last but not least the out-front mount for the Mio, a very nice and costeffective upgrade as I like to sit low. I had to modify it a bit as it's originally for Garmin. so it's a work-in-progress.

Thanks for the images, very helpful

Giant Propel is more Pope Mobile than Bat Mobile.

Maybe you misheard her and she said "the matte mobile"?

Hehehe, it's just a theme guys. We could have gone with stealth but that's not as funny. :-)

Coming back to business; I'm still looking for a black on black wheelset. Mavic's with exalith seem nice but 60 or 80 is way too high so I'm open to other suggestions.
