2009 Cannondale CAAD9-?
Moderators: MrCurrieinahurry, maxim809, Moderator Team
I just completed my 2009 CAAD9-7 build.
She weighed in at 17.5lbs with 1.2lbs of accessories, so I estimate her to weigh 16.3lbs.
I know I can easily lose 220g by swapping the Ksyriums for Soul S2.0s,
but I want to keep all the major components "as is".
I was looking for weight savings in the cassette, chain and skewers.
Cassette: Ultegra 6600
Chain: Dura-Ace 7801
Skewers: '11 OEM Mavic Ksyrium Elite
Target weight: 15.X pound range.
Suggestions?

Here's what I'm considering:
KCNC Skewers @ 47g
KCNC Cassette @ 103g
KMC Chain @ 240g
For a 210g savings over items in consideration listed above.
Any opinions?

Similar to my build
My recommendations: swap seatpost for 27.2 x 240 Thomson Masterpiece would save 55g and swap saddle for Selle SLR would save another 60g. Mavic skewers are also pretty heavy so you could save another 50g there easy

That's what's going to make it so difficult for me. I love just about everything that's on it now.
The Fizik post (once cut) shoudl come in below the Thompson's weight of 160-190g.
I think the cassette will yield the biggest savings so far.
Tough. I might be stuck at just above 16lbs. Grrrr!

Agreed. Weight savings can be found in other sources. If anything, I would only change the skewers from that list of choices.

I know you really like you bars, stem and tape, but there is a lot of weight you can save there.
The Bonty stem is listed at 149 grams, but it's probably another 10 to 20 grams above that. A Ritchey WCS stem will come in about 120 grams and cost a third of the Bontrager Stem.
FSA is notorious for low-balling its weights. That bar is probably close to 280 to 290 grams. A Ritchey WCS aluminum bar will come in around 230 and the Carbon Evolution SL, which will have a shape that I think you would like, comes in around 190.
Easton also has some nice carbon bars with flat surfaces that come in about 50 grams lighter than the K-wing.

Are you trying to get to 15 for the sake of it?
I cannot tell a lie. Yes.
Right now, she's fat at 16lbs and feels soooooooo much better than she was at high 17lbs.
But yes...I must confess it. I want to make that number even if I'm just floating below 16lbs.

Arggghhh.
I know, I know.
But it's sooo comfy.

In my reading, I've read that there was a bad batch of KCNC cassettes, but that they've been weeded out.
Any other cassette you might suggest?

My ideal (IOW "dream") upgrade would be a Hollowgram crankset, but it being a non-BB30 frame,
the weight savings would be negated by the necessary adapter/sleeve needed to make it work?

In my (poorly titled) thread here
Am looking to drop mine down below the 16 mark as well, so this thread is relevant to my interests

Thanks.
Now, I'm looking into chainrings for two reasons: Lighter weight and aesthetics.
If I can go lighter and get something in black, that would be a very nice upgrade.
The Ultegra SL arms are okay. The DA 7800 Rings stick out against the frame.
Small Update:
Lost a skewer nut while transporting my bike, so it was the perfect excuse to get new skewers.
Pulled off my 146g OEM skewers and replaced them with 45g KCNC's. Black of course.
100g's gone the easy way.
BTW...my GF matched my fork to the frame (that white block lettering was killing me!).
