This idea of selling smaller bolts might be a steady income to help fund bigger projects. Maybe have some saddle/post combo's made in 27.2 and 31.6 in two lengths and be able to have a quick turn around on them. Honestly, you would clean up with having these items ready to go and having someone just send a payment on paypal. I know paypal has its issues but if you can make the transition very quick and easy, people will not really think about it and just drop the money.

Thanks for the support guys, really respect that! It would be for sure nice to start like that and I'll for sure give my best. Will see if it will be possible to make everything like I want.

Regarding the bolts - at this moment it looks quite promising, but still need to do some calculations etc. if it would make sense to invest the money for the moulds etc.,...so it may take around 2 weeks that I have some more informations, but I'll let you know for sure

Carbon is great for many things, bolts however are not one of those as it is very difficult to get the correct fibre alignment across the thread profile.

One product best left to the metal people at the moment.

Carbon Bolts are lighter than Nylon bolts.
That's what matters.

Hehe..Well it would be made with machines in a company where they have a lot of experiances with it - they already made some similar bolts for the industry, so I think the quality should be good. But as I said, it will take some more time to see if it will be possible, unfortuntely I can't promise anything yet.. But if I already get in contact and if I have access to those machines, why not at least try to make it? :beerchug:

This is my thought as well. The strength of the bolt is really just what you can derive from the resin, unless you've got magic machines that don't exist yet that can do ridiculous fiber alignment.

If that's the case, why not just add some black dye to some resin and cast your own bolts, and add some microspheres to reduce the density and weight? You can even do "carbon nanotubes" if you're feeling spendy.

Hi Jure . A tunning kit would be awsome . Do you think they would be strong enough to secure brake and gear cables? Also Jure if you get a chance look at the jocky wheels I have on my bike [ artrays guru] they are carbon but gold , they weigh 8grms the pair . Would you know how they make the carbon gold ?
That gold carbon look in a tunning set would be awesome really bling .
cheers

Well, as I said, I'll at least try to make it. If I'm honest I don't have any expereinces with making carbon bolts. It's for sure interesting for me, also if it will be just an experiment..

Hard to say anything about the strenght at this moment. If not for other use it should be ok for limit screws etc.,..but for sure not for stems etc.,..anyway, as soon as I'll have some more informations I'll let you know.

Regarding the gold-look, it could be kevlar, but also possible that it's just FG. I can also get those materials in different colours, also hybrid materials like carbon/kevlar in different colours (red, blue,..)..

Then it's most probably FG with a special finish..

Some news - just finished with one of the last experiments before I start with the carbon work for PROTO-TYPE 5 frame.

I'm working on the layup, I have to prepare A LOT of carbon pieces to start with the work on the tubing..and then some more pieces for the reinforcements on the joints. So quite a lot of precise cutting to do..

As I probably already mentioned I also have some new tools that will allow me to make even better resoults compared to PT4 (this time even less excess resin..). Will have some new photos in a few days, I'll keep you updated

Will the PT-5 be even lighter?

With the same layup it should be a bit lighter, because the better procedure that I can now make.. Will see, I'll reinforce some areas a bit more and probably I'll also go for internal routing this time (didn't decided yet..?). As soon as I'll make all the tubes I'll be able to calculate how much it will weight.

The dropouts will save some weight (new/better design) and as I said also the procedure, but don't know yet how much ...anyway, I'll let you know, will laminate the toptube already this week!
