BmanX: I can do a carbon cog but glued in spacers... I will look it up first before replying.

Josh: this spider can be made lighter.

BmanX wrote:Mattias, can you update us with some information on a carbon cassette. I have been thinking of getting one done by Fibre-Lyte as the single speed cog that they build me held up pretty well. I think if the cogs are bonded to the spacer and they match up the spacing the same as a standard cassette, it will work well.

Haters gonna hate. It's his thing buddy, leave him to it if that's what he wants to do. + It's great for us as we get bike porn to see... Keep it up OP!

Plus I'm sure he either has something like your pinarello or had something like it and has moved on. It's evolution. You'll get there

Gum is correct. Once you have a great bike, you'll start changing things here and there to get lighter and then it doesn't stop because over time there will always be something lighter that comes out or you modify

Evening WW..

This is my first post in a while. I have had a busy last few weeks, so the build has gone on hold slightly.

I will get a proper update in the next few days. As i have now got a frame, and the cassette from Mattias.
The wheels have not been built up as yet, but its in the pipeline, should be completed soon..

And just in reply to -

If you see my other bike on here - http://weightweenies.starbike.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=73359&start=15
This is used for racing/riding/training all the time, its not overly light at all. But i love it, and it is my 'main bike'

This idea and project, is just something to keep me entertained. I'm 18, and have learnt so much from the people on here, that I thought i would have a go at doing something myself.
And i cant wait to get it finished (Shame the bank account doesn't feel the same way though!)

Ok, Finally i have had time to sit down and put a few pictures up.
Unfortunately over the last few weeks, money for the build has had to go elsewhere. So i am concentrating on getting a bike built, as light as possible at the moment. But without the 100% lightweight and blingy bits like first planed.
These will hopefully come at a later date..

OK.
Since my last post, i have had 2 very exciting parcels from Mattias containing some pretty amazing components -
Firstly, a custom 10speed full (Almost) carbon cassette. This follows the standard shimano 11-23 pattern. Sprockets 3-10 are made from carbon and separated by plastic spacers, and the first 2 sprockets are made from Aluminium, due to the complexity and size of the part.
The weight of the cassette is an amazing 61 grams. Thats without lock-ring, but a KCNC item should only add 5grams ish.

The next parcel contained some chainrings, they are anodised aluminium. And 110BCD teeth size 39/53.
These again are a pretty amazing 47grams for both rings. The only downside is the 53tooth ring is a slightly flexy, but we will have to see how it copes under pressure -

Ok, next up was putting the chainset together. I have got Extralite chainring bolts. That weigh in at 10grams for all 5. And the stock lightning cranks and spider.
As shown below the final weight for the full chainset is 413grams + the 90grams for the BB cups. It makes 503grams. Not to bad i didn't think!!

Now, the frame. It is a 54cm Scott Addict SL frame, and fork. The frame weighs in at 834grams for the Frame + Mech Hanger + BB Guide. And the fork weighs in at 321grams thats un-cut.

Ok, so far with the following items on the frame, we have a weight of 5.4pounds. I think a sensible guess would be around 11 pounds for the final build. But we will see what happens!!

Whats built so far -
Frame
Fork
Headset
Rear Mech
Front Mech
Chainset
F&R Hubs
Cassette
QR Skewers
Brakes

The wheelbuild is coming soon, promise!!!

Thanks
Josh...
