Finally finished - my 'Black BMC' project - a BMC promachine frameset and components which I rubbed back with wet and dry whilst watching the 2009 TdF. Everything had a matt clear finish and built up with 'black' Di2 and with my trusty SMP saddle recovered to match.
Hopefully this explains all my questions about all things black in recent months - (big thankyou to all those who answered!) First ride was this morning - fantastic.
Thanks to Glen and the guys at Trak Cycles for putting it all together - the Di2 installation was obsessively thought through. Thanks also to Mick of Busyman Bicycles for the saddle re-cover - the match to the bar tape is fantastic.
Hope you like it

This is nice! Same thing I am in the process of doing not a BMC though. Mine should be done mid week next week. I like the saddle and bartape combo.

Very cool build. Just another one of those totally "unique" ones that makes me giddy to think about my next build... Gotta' wait 'til summer's up before I can even think about affording it, though! The saddle is obviously a Selle, but which model is it? I've also used the Brooks bar tape before but it was on a classic restoration and the weight wasn't an issue. Did you consider how much the tape weighs to be an issue, or is the durability/style queue more the point with that one? I know you also have it cut short, so that makes it a bit less of a worry... Even so, that's gotta' be what, 50-60 grams more for the tape than regular cork?

Really beautiful bicycle. I'm no BMC fan and I typically associate their designs with "high-tech," but this one has a really classy appeal to it that I'd be hard-pressed to say I've seen matched with any other BMC I've come across. Excellent job.

Wow! I would love to get those photos in high-resolution! Simply amazing bike.

First time I actually see a bike with shimano carbon cranks - they are SO beautiful!

What handlebars are you using? They look great - like Pro stealth evo just with out paint.

Really great build. Really.

That SMP saddle and the tape give the build a vintage/solid look that I like.
Great job on the saddle re-covering.

The more I see of these types of bikes, the closer I come to building one(modern with vintage highlights). Just solid looking.
I'm sure you will enjoy.

HA. I knew it was probably your bike thats pictured on the TRAK cycles website....

your bike here

Bike looks good, I thought you had EDGE wheels though? Where did you guys ride this morning, I was thinking I might see you at the Cibo this morning but I overslept and only got there in time for my normal ride (Im assuming you ride with the TRAK group ride that leaves from Cibo Rundle)?

Bike looks one of a kind :beerchug:

Fantastic mate. The individuality on this makes it into my top 3 for the year. The only thing I would change is take the stickers off the LW's.

The bartape/saddle colour combo also looks great - I usually go for black, which would also look good for this build.

Anyone can stick a light bike together without much thought, but this gets extra kudos. Very cool 8)

A truly brilliant bike! I had my reservations when you were explaining this concept to me but it has really turned out to be one of the best looking bikes that we have ever built.

Well done again.

The best builds always look simple.

Not that they are simple to make ... or afford ... ;)

Have just looked at the Blog of Busyman. This man's an artist not an artisan. He has a real talent. I think I will be getting touch with him for an Aliante carbon that I have cut a foam centre section out.
