Ok gang...here we go with bike #2, after last week's Fondi Carb Lex (http://weightweenies.starbike.com/forum ... hp?t=48229)
This is my Steel is Real bike. Picked up the frame and fork on ebay for under $500!
Ride is stiff, incredibly stable, and pretty smooth.
Tried to lighten her up by switching over to an Easton EC90 SLX fork, but found it way too flexy for me.
Saddle and stem have since been switched out.
Specs
Frame: Waterford R-33 custom - 58cm seat tube, 55cm top tube
Fork: Alpha Q Pro Carbon
Stem: Changed to KCNC SC Wing
Bar: Syntace Racelite Carbon
Ergos/RD: SRAM Force
FD: Dura Ace
Brakes: OG with Corima cork pads (actually work great with this wheelset)
Crankset: Storck Powerarms with JIS bb
Chain: KMC X-SL
Wheels: Easton EC90 Aero
Tires: Veloflex Servio Course
Cassette: Tiso Campy 12-25 (somehow shifts well)
Post: Easton EC90
Saddle: Changed to Tune Speedneedle
Cages: Tune carbon - 9 grams a piece!
Pedals: Speedplay Zero Ti
Weight comes out to 14.5 lbs on my uber-crappy scale. Feel free to recommend a good, cheap hanging scale for more accurate readings.
So, a few items to discuss...Please weigh in (no pun intended) on the following:
1. I'm thinking of changing the bartape to all black.
2. Might switch out the crank arms to SRAM Red, and move the Powerarms over to the Merlin (my new project). Will probably keep the Tiso rings on this bike, though, since I've heard the SRAM rings suck.
3. Stem may soon be switched for a higher-rise Rotor S1. Might also go to a smaller drop bar, but jury is still out on that one.
Hope you all like the Red Rocket! (Toronto reference)

Looks great! I have a red and white Lemond Zurich and think that combination looks great with white bar tape and a white saddle. Would you consider getting the fork painted?

Molto bella!
As said by earlier post, Id change bar tape and headset. But that's personal taste.
But please can you "park" your bike in another position? I mean..I feel sorry for the color. (sorry for my limited english, hope you got what i mean).

Thanks all! So, no thoughts on whether or not to swap the crank-arms out?
Micky - Point taken - I'll try not to scratch the paint!
Synchro - As for the headset, I see your point. Any clue as to my options? You think black would look better?
Lincoln - What colour would you paint the fork? White perhaps? Might be hard to match the frame.
Tika - I had a set of low profile wheels on her, but these perform better, brake better, and look cooler to my eye. Though a real classic build would also look nice on the frame.

real nice bike u got there
after all the alu roadbikes i had and my current ww sub 6 carbon bike i still always have a abig smile when i am riding my real steel bike
i agree with curri that the bike needs classic wheels, in all black ofcourse
i did the same thing for mine, ok it makes the bike very classic but please try out the looks
this bike needs more plain black parts with just minimal white decals i think
did u have the old sub 300 or the current 330 grams slx?
can i ask what u weigh?
its because i have the old one and the new one looks much better but i like to now how much stiffer the new one is

I had the old SLX. I weigh 175 lbs, but I'm tall, so I get way out over the front end and it was nowhere near stiff enough for me.
As for the looks, I'll throw out a pic at some point with the Speedneedle, new stem and perhaps some low-pro wheels for all you ol' skool fans.

Well you've got a bit of an American theme going on that bike... I'd go with an FSA Orbit X headset. If you want something lighter... check out those crank brothers headsets.
Personally I'm a bit over seeing chris king headsets specced on all custom builds.

Nothing wrong with the headset, better than a King.
I'd paint the fork Red.
