Hello all, have been lurking here for a few weeks as a guest - saw this thread and decided it was about time I joined and posted something.
Here I am on my Colnago C50 riding through the Arenberg forest (first photo) and also a bit further on at the Carrfour del Arbe (second photo) this June. We did all 160 miles/260 km... Yes it hurt!

It is a C50 of the original vintage rather than the HM version kitted out with Record 10v (soon to be SR 11v!) with the exception of the cassette which is chorus to save a few £££ and they wear better than the Record Ti cassette too. Wheels are Ambrosio Excelight 32h laced 3x onto record hubs and shod with Vittoria pave 24mm clinchers.
The bars are deda 215 with the deep belgian drop and the stem and set pin are Colnago's own offerings via ITM. I also had on this some look 396's (I think...) which have recently been changed for some Time RXS carbons due to a knee injury. Am sitting on a Fizik Aliante (v. comfy!) and am recording the data on a Polar CS600. Cages are elite carbon.
I know its not really WW fodder, but is is v. pro and if it can het me rounf this parcours then I think it deserving of a post on here.

Still feeling fresh at the Foret d'Arenberg! 100 miles in, 60 miles to go!

Image

You will notice I am ina very small gear here as it was all I could turn at this point - some 145ish miles in.

Check the mud in both photos, very PRX!!!! It had rained overnight, but we were mostly lucky - only saw one broken bone all day.

Paul.

Comments welcome!

the headset makes sense, after seeing so much "chris king" on Colnagos equipped with Campa.

I just wanted to bump this because this bike is so damn sexy... I just received my 2003 Raleigh International frame set (Columbus zona tubing) and have been inspired by this build to almost replicate the components to a tee. Record 10 with the first generation carbon cranks, Record hubs with Ambrosio Crono F20 rims, Record seat post and ITM Millenium bars and stem... Not only will it be vastly less expensive than my weight-weenie component list that was in mind, but it will be way sexier! So excited. :D

Fred, do you still ride this? How did you end up liking that wheel set that you built up? Cheers!

-Gregory

referring to first photo posts

beautiful bike, I'm a Colango Mapei fan just love the paint job.

Previous comment "2003 Record groupset, heavy but nice"...we have it easy these days everything is so light. Just think about those guys like Garzelli who rode up steep slopes, thinking their kit was the lightest available! Yes things have changed a bike like this is perfectly managable and very sleek looking.

Lightweights don't do it for me on this Colnago model, what looks like a 2002? use some wheels in the same era like Mavic Cosmic's.

Great photos, thanks again.

This is one of the most stunning race bike I ever seen! old school like the way it supposed to be, not like the new style frames that looks like somebody ride them before the carbon cooled down and the tubes twisted all around

Loving the wheels! Would even look better with silver spokes and silver Record hubs. Maybe something to think about 8)

Cool to see you managed to find first addition Record cranks.

Great new shots with the different wheels, looks fantastic now. Glad you used those lightweights on another bike

Yeah....a few silver components would like nicer maybe, but for me 9.5/10

cheers :beerchug:
