i used to be a messenger in boston. i rode a merckx crit frame w/a single 53/16 gear. i used to race, big deal. i ride my merck track bike every freaking day, but honestly, i spend more time staring at it, loving it, thinking about the hands that built it. i love steel, period.

this is my bike
it used to be another's
i don't bother
cuz its my ass sore per day
riding it my way
techies think they do
but steel is where i feel
what its like
to know a bike
and peddle it anew
familiar as a sudden storm
i knew some old italian men, belgians too
coffee and a smoke
wine in time for sun down
take yer heart rate and shove it
save yer grams
steel i feel
a heady buzz of beer
dressed in wool, wet, fogged, happy
trees and stones and empty roads
and longer more of the same
my game, in head, *f##k* you
not a werd of what i do from you
not 1 will i hear
when i'm here
steel, stone, bone, home, muscle says.
