49yr old racer. 12 hour solo, Ultra endurance, XC, whatever.

Race FS. 04 M Spider(frame bought off Ebay in early 06). 23lb 1oz with steel front rotor(note Stans rotors in pic for race season). Just finished freshening it up for next season(starts this Jan. with a freezing 34 miles of tech, sufferest w/ 5500' of climbing).

Just finished..New BB bearings. Chain. Middlering. Rear shock. Cables. 970 RD. 952 FD.

Most bolts are also ti or alum.

With the Spiders wheel setup, post/saddle, pedals, its 20lb 7oz. Or 21lb12oz as shown(BS wheels=1550gm, Stans w rimstrips, 2.20 front Karma, XT cog, QRs, stainless Eggs, etc). Also need to cut the brake lines. Just replaced some Formula B4Pros.


Roadie. 04 TCR Hybrid. Ebay frame as well . As were the cranks, wheels, RD, brakes. Nothing special at 16lb 11oz. Light enough tho.

Your exactly right. I used to race an 02 21lb 4oz NRS with disc and later that same XTC was down to 18lb 12oz.(Twister SS's, B4SLs, Noleen Mega Air, 11-27 DAce, etc). Now for 50+ mile point to point, or up to 130 mile solo efforts..I go faster longer with the extra comfort. Still light where it counts tho(wheels, drivetrain, high/control points).

Heres an old pic of the NRS at 21lb 4oz. Just after a race. I snag'd 2 of those 3lb Noleens new back in late 03 for $99 per fork. Note first gen Stans alum front rotor. Still have that sucker..

Nice stable of horses! What are you thoughts comparing the Reba to the Fox shock? My MTB came with a Rockshox Recon 351 shock and while its not light I think it works very well.

I hate to say it, but I like the Reba better then the Fox. The Fox to me, altho stiff and precise...feels way too progressive. And to make things worse..to get anywhere near full travel, one has to run lots of sag. So one ends up with only the middle 2 inches of travel, so to speak. To me, the Reba 'feels' like it has more travel then the Fox, to make a long story short. No biggie really, but.. when you factor in cost(Fox was $565 in late 05. Reba was $349 last summer)..The Fox looks better tho.

The NRS still lives(way heavier at 24lbs tho. note 3lb 4oz 02 Marathon 100mm air fork. Ti riser bar is nice feeling, but heavy). My everyday "beater" FS and HT mtbs.. Keeps the race bikes fresh and ready. I'm retired now and ride/train most days here in the western NC mtns, so it helps.

It has a Sid now tho and a 1x9.


Plus a cross bike. I love this thing for all day rides in the mtns.
