Oh yes, most probably that one as wel. Titanium is the ideal component for winter frames; for 2 weeks now I ponder on the question of building up a titanium 29er or not...

on the subject of mud-guards, is there are ‘correct’ type, race blades acceptable? Or is the full guard necessary?

I have used Race Blades for the last couple of years and they are fine, just clean them regularly and they usually last.

Hey Robsbc is that the basic Tarmac? Would there be any room for full mudguards or would RaceBlades be the only option? Looks good for winter!

It's the 2008 Tarmc Elite which I bought through my work who are doing the ride 2 work scheme. So will effectively cost me just over half the price around £700.

I think raceblades would be the only option.

I think the question shouldn't be who has the lightest winter bike, but who has the heaviest?

I'm sure my all-chrome underneath the paint Columbus SLX-framed junkbike would be a candidate. The frame alone is so ridiculously heavy that I think it comes to about 7 or 8lbs in size 54cm. I have refused to build it up, so it's hanging on my shed wall as a reminder of what I used to race on a long time ago.

Currently it's on the shed wall while I ride my 'cheap' Pinarello, exactly the same as the one shown on P1. I did get rid of the Most crankset though as I couldn't resist Dura Ace, and downgraded the wheels to some Mavic Cosmos (easily replaceable bearings, bombroof, heavy) with 28mm tyres (ditto), the better to enjoy the winter commute.

Wow, three pages in and there's only one bike that seems to qualify as a winter bike, one that you could put a lot of miles on. I guess I'm not sure what qualifies as a winter mtn. bike? You guys must all ride alone, because there would be outrage if I showed up for a team ride without full fenders + buddy flap. [/img]

Trust me it has a guard on the rear right now. I don't like it when my behind and hamstrings are getting wet and cold.
