Well it's been a busy winter period for me and my bike. For xmas I got a used Prologo Scratch TR saddle, as well as a set of KCNC skewers. I also bought myself a pair of Speedplay Zero SS in red, which was a really nice upgrade from the Shimano pedals that have followed me since my first bike in 2006.

The Scratch saddle did cause me some trouble to my fit, as it's taller than my SLR, so I have to push it ALL the way back. Might be looking for a new seatpost.

But here are some pictures

Kermit,

The upgrades make you bike look mighty fine. I like the yellow on it.
In stead of searching for a post with more setback it might be better to look around for a longer stem. With that you can move your saddle a bit more forward again. I don't know your fit on the bike, but it seems like a better move

+1, 1 cm longer stem would be better solution

Actually, I had that in mind, but this seat position is where I'm most comfortable above the cranks. I've tried positioning it slighty more forward, but unfortunately it didn't do me that much good.

Where as I just had a "why didn't I think about that" moment. A 10cm stem is coming my way now so I can keep my current handlebar to saddle relationship but closer to my more comfortable setback

Great thread - I've seen a real evolution of a bike from a 'straight from the shop' newbie machine to a totally personalised race machine. Unlike many bikes here you can also see that it gets used - gradual wear of the saddle. However you either have a great bar tape cleaning solution you need to share with us, or you spend a lot on white tape :)

Regarding saddle setback, remember that your saddle dictates your position above the bottom bracket, while your saddle setback, frame reach, stem length and bar setup dictate your overall reach. This has a couple of implications:
- If you're pedalling well it's not a great idea to move the saddle to fit a longer / shorter stem
- If you fit a higher saddle, you need to fit it further back on the seat post to keep the reach the same.
- If you fit a different saddle, you may sit further forwards / backwards, meaning it's not unusual to have to fit the saddle in a different forwards/ bacwards location to remain comfortable.

It does look as if your new saddle position will have you pedalling from much further back. A good start would be to look vertically at the saddles one on top of the other and slide them forwards / backward until the profile matches. Then see the difference in position of the saddle nose. This should be <1cm. Then reinstall your old saddle exactly as previously to measure height and nose of the saddle to bars. Then put the new saddle in so that it measures exactly the same, plus the profile difference. Then adjust by feel.

Yes, I've enjoyed this thread as well. From straight out the shop to custom.

Thanks for all the kind words.

I actually spoke to my local Retül fitter who told me to measure where the saddle was 10 cm. Make a mark, and then measure from this mark to the bottombracket. Then do the same with the new saddle, and it should be about the same. I've done this, and this is where the saddle ends up. I did it again earlier this week and with the same result. It also feels the same when pedalling now. But as mrfish puts it - I had to lower the seatpost because the rails on the saddle are taller, which meant that I didn't get as much setback as when using the SLR.

And no, I actually only use one or two sets of bartape during the year. I think it's the photograph that's a bit misleading :D

Washing up liquid and a jiffy cloth work well in cleaning bar tap.
