There are two school of thoughts when it comes to winter bikes....
There are those who prefer a knackered old hack with low end components which they dont have to worry about too much.
And there are those who prefer to ride something really nice in the hope that it will make the dark cold winter rides more palitable.
As you can see from the photo I fall into the second camp how about you?

Mine is a little bit better than a complete piece of crap, due to the fact that it's a 2007. Definitely in the 2nd category though.

@ Benno: What do you think about the Xpedo pedals? Reliable?

That's the exact reason I bought them for my winter bike. I wanted to see if they were as unreliable as reported. I had a good amount of riding on them in November/December before there was any snow and so far so good. My only complaint (was also a complaint of another rider who uses the full Ti ones for race pedals) is that there are little nubs all over the place that your cleat gets caught on when you try to step into them. It means you can't slide your foot into place if you miss the mark, you have to lift your foot off the pedal and try again. Not really a huge deal to some, but at the start of a race with 100 other riders it can be a handicap. I've already decided to go with the 2007 XTR pedals for my race bike because I've run 959's for 5 years and they are bomb proof and have amazing engagement/disengagement. I was also told (whether or not it's true I don't know) that Ti axles flex more and waste more energy even though they are lighter.

edit: not to say that I don't still ride right now in the snow. I get out 3-4 times/week but the snow is so smooth and you never hit rocks or anything so it's not a good judge of a pedals durability so I don't count those miles.
