My name's Ben, I've been lurking for a long time and finally signed up a few weeks ago.

Road bike:

A 2003 Litespeed Antares (alloy with carbon seat stays) that's been upgraded to (mostly) DA 10-spd throughout.

Originally purchased as a training hack, I love this little bike so much that it's become my year-round favourite. Recently treated to a Stronglight Pulsion, Ksyrium ES and GP4000s with latex tubes, she's still going strong. 7.9kg in her current guise.

That said, I'm lusting over a Vortex Compact. Watch this space.

Mountain bike:

An elderly Specialized S-Works M4 hardtail, rescued from ebay - her previous owners had abused her terribly :(. Most parts have been (or are being) upgraded - now XT/XTR throughout and a Thomson post instead of the USE suspension thingy. I quite fancy a full-suspension steed one day(Ellsworth Truth or Yeti ASR-SL are on the shortlist) but I feel quite sentimentally attached to this bike. The frame is a work of art.

I'm a professional athlete (of sorts) - I'm the youngest to ski solo to the North Pole (72 days, 1,000km) and I hold the record for the longest solo Arctic journey by a Briton. You can read more about me, what I've done, and what I'm planning next at http://www.bensaunders.com

I've been a bike geek for years, ever since a part-time job in a bike shop aged 15...
