Hi
I just bought a new bike - or new (slightly used) bike day :D 8)

THE BIKE
Specialized Allez E5 Smartweld Premium (bought 2016)
Frame size: 56
Fact Tarmac Carbon fork.

Groupset: Complete 5700 Shimano 105 (10-speed) (Ultegra FD, Chain, Cassette)

Wheels: Mavic Ksyrium WLS (2016)

Tires: Continental 4-season 25mm (new).

Pedals: Look Keo Carbon

Handlebar: FSA Omega Compact 44cm

Stem: Pro shimano 120mm

Seatpost: Haibike carbon

Saddle: Specialized Romin Steel.

Weight: 8.330 kg.

PRICE: 780 Dollars / 600 British Pounds.

What to change? :?: :?:

Brakes - 105 is 380g.. Maybe Zero Grativy.
Handlebar - need smaller like 40cm??
Saddle - Carbon lightweight one??
Seatpost - a haibike dosent fit a bike of this quality.
The tubes - how did he think 60mm on a 20mm rim was a nice look?
_
What do you think? :?: :?:

Congratulation on your new bike. I can absolutely understand why you would want to buy this. It's a great bike offering a lot of qualities and at a very reasonable price point.

I have the same frame, well actualy I have two, one is my winter bike and another is a more 'tricked out' summer ride. The summer one sit at around 7.3 kgs complete with a mix of Ultegra and Dura-Ace, Fulcrum Quattro Carbon wheels and Ritchey WCS stem/bar so it can aboslutely be turned into fairly light weight ride if that's your thing.

In terms of seatpost I would recommend a carbon seatpost. I swapped a Ricthey WCS alloy for a S-Works carbon and it made quite a difference as the frame transmits the road surface 1:1. Also I opted for a titanium rail saddle, both for weight and (I think) a small comfort gain.

If your BB30 runs fine, then just ignore this bit, but I swapped mine for the C-Bear bb30-24 ceramic bearings. Just the quality of these is great, but they are made to top level tolerance and I've had no issues since installing.

Enjoy your new ride!

Gratz to your purchase, seems like a very good price!

All upgrades depend on your budget, but to start you off:
- I would indeed start by looking into a new saddle: Easy and cheap gains
- Brakes: You can get brand new Dura Ace for 100€ in Ebay
- Yes to the seatpost
- Can upgrade other parts to Ultegra or better. New Ultegra crank is 180€. Check Ebay?
- Depending on budget you could look into new wheels, some mid-range low-profile Hunt could work for example (~480€)
- Oh, and I would mount the bottle holder at the down tube of the frame, should be big visual difference ;)

Thans for your great replies :)
I happyon2wheels - the current seatpost is carbon, but i dont know anything about it. I will try to look for a light and stiff one. Your looks like it came with the bike, so maybe I will go for a S-works.
The groupset havent run more than 1000km, so maybe I will stick with it. The cassette and chain and front deraileur is actually ultegra.

kidrob - Dura ace brakes looks great but still weigh at 300-310g in real weight, so pretty expensive g/pr.$ vice.
I fancy praxisworks or rotor for cranks, but the 105 looks great irl.
I know the bottlecase situation is cr*p, but i have another, so that will be sorted. ;)

I'm also changing the stem for a 90mm - i think the Kalloy Uno 7 or simular will fit nice with some acetone procedure.

^^kalloy uno is all time WW pref I think (https://fairwheelbikes.com/fair-wheel-k ... alth-stem/).
I went with the Ritchey WCS C260, it's hella sexy

Great bike! Congratulations! You've got yourself a bike that offers tremendous bang for the buck. It sounds like you've got some avenues for modifcations. The only thing I disagree with is the brake upgrade. I don't think Zero Gravity brakes offer very good braking... I'd go with DA or if you want something LIGHT, then ee brakes.

Remember to share your bike in the Smartweld Gallery thread.

Wow - thats an amazing looking bike you've got Rich!

It was infact crankaddicts bike builds wich insured me to buy the Allez Smartweld instead of an Caad10 or carbon bike.
I will post my bike in the Smartweld Gallery when I'm happy with the build.

abt. the Zero Gravity - I know they're bad, but DA is just not the right stealthy color, so maybe an KCNC C7 or similar?
And some carbon clinchers from Yoeleo at some point.
I'm sticking with 10-speed because there must some 10-speed related bargains out there?? :D
My last bike had 6800 and rotor and carbon, but i think the Allez is better for me than an old old Dogma 60.1 .

Get some S-Works logos for your frame and you can be just as cool.

I'm a bit of a budgetweenie and I buy/sell alot of bike parts.
The Haibike carbon seatpost is sitting at 220g for a 400mm collar.
I have seen cheap seatpost at 140-150g at aliexpress, but will stick with the Haybike until a good light and safe option shows up.
So I'm in the danish cycling market for a 27.2 carbon seatpost under 200g.

Very nice Allez, though I don't like the aesthetics of the seatpost (sounds like you're going to change this though). I think a Pro seatpost/handlebar would go well with the rest of the bike (the stem seems to work anyway).

You could always do a 'post S-Works' conversion featured ride on your website - then if you need to show off your bike you can post a link :)
I write the weightweenies blog, hope you like it :)

Disclosure: I'm sponsored by Velocite, but I do give my honest opinion about them (I'm endorsed to race their bikes, not say nice things about them)
