Hello Everyone. Ok I am all finished sanding the frame, fork and seat post. There must have been almost 100 grams of clearcoat on this frame. I haven't had a chance to weigh everything but I will as soon as I get a chance. This wouldn't be an aero build without using an aero front brake. The TriRig Omega is the clear choice. I went with the older first generation version because it is about 30 or more grams lighter.

Of course, there is weight savings opportunity here so I must do some stuff to it. I have some Tune carbon brake shoes. Compared to the stock aluminum TriRig shoes, there is not much weight difference. So, I decided to save the Tune for a different project and Dremel the TriRig shoes.

Made some holes and got rid of steel bolts and replaced with Ti bolts

Combining the holes and making oval cut outs did not make much difference

Hey, love what you are doing, however I can't seem to see the most recent photos. I'm not sure if this is just me or not

This is the steel bolt that mounts the brake to the fork.....Porky. Some weight was saved using a shorter titanium hex head bolt.

By replacing some bolts, I saved about 16 grams. If I remove the cable guide, I saved 22 grams. Not bad.

If I want to run bare wire and use the TriRig Omega without the cable guide I will need a stem with an integrated cable stop. The 1st Generation TriRig Sigma Stem came to mind but I feel that it is too heavy for this project. I also think it is ugly.

So, I thought to myself what if I got a carbon version. On Ebay I found a Diamondback Serios Carbon Stem which is the same stem used on the Lapierre Firestorm TT bike. If it is made of carbon it should be lighter right?

I can't do those TT style stems. They are too heavy. BLKTeck makes a nice carbon bar at sub 200 grams but they are unavailable. The TriRig Sigma X stem hovers at around 250 grams so that is too heavy as well. So, I will go back to a nice -17 MCFK Stem.

I am getting my Early 1990s Anodized Purple freak on!! Back in 1993 I rode a GT Zaskar LE with a RockShox Quadra 10 fork. The entire bike was tricked out with anodized purple aluminum parts. So, purple highlights all over this build starting with some groovy Tune Skyline Skewers. You can't beat this weight.

I would be very interested in the first generation Tririg stem if you wanted to part with it.

I had those on my time trial bike with SRAM's TT specific carbon brake levers, cork pads, and Reynolds SDV carbon clinchers, for which I would judge front wheel braking action in the dry as only so, so! So have you actually tried setting this up with the intended lever? I would have to wonder if brake lever throw with a road shifter might be an issue.

I have only used the Omega with 3T time trial levers and a TRP lever I had on my fixed gear. I am beginning to lean away from using a road bike drop bar and using a Time Trial Base Bar instead to turn this into a hybrid bike. Like the Project Liberty bike Tririg did.

TriRig Alpha Classic that I am not using at the moment......

Image

Let's take this off and chop off 445 grams.

Image

254 grams for the base bar. Haero H.380 base bar is 205 grams so this is not the lightest option. But, the Haero base bar does not look aero to me at all. The TriRig bar has a 10 to 1 air foil.
