Trek Emonda SL6 Pro 2017

Picked this up last week with a 30% off tdf discount, otherwise I would've gone with the Giant TCR Advanced Pro 1 which also had a discount and was actually a lighter bike at 7.07kg.

For the price I paid, with the Vision wheels it was a bargain. The weight is a bit disappointing though. Trek claim on their website 7.21kg sans pedals for a 56cm frame. Mine is a 54cm, and with 105 carbon pedals on the bike (285gr) and a Specialised Romin Evo the bike came in at 7.65kg. Even accounting for the pedals, and the lighter specialised saddle there is still a ~200gr difference. Will be looking to upgrade to some carbon bars in the near future.

Went on my first ride today. Extremely comfortable frame, responds to putting the hammer down extremely well and takes off when you point it down hill.

Nice bike. I love that combination. The weight is disappointing, I agree. A couple of slight tweaks, though, and you'll make up the weight differences. I absolutely love the RXL IsoSpeed bars, especially when riding on less-than-ideal roads. Otherwise, a good carbon bar will lower your weight and improve the ride. The Bontrager skewers are pretty heavy. Look for some Ti skewers, and a lighter saddle, as well.

Another thing you can look at is the SLR seat mast cap, which drops the weight a little (although the biggest savings will be with the saddle clamp).

Finally, tires. Those Bontrager R2 tires are heavy, and aren't particularly good. Get new ones! Otherwise, go out and enjoy the ride!

What bars are you looking at? These bikes are excellent for the price in my opinion, curious to see what you do with it!

Looking to get some aero carbon road bars. Something like the Specialized Aerofly. I want to reduce the reach and they're perfect with a 85 or 90mm reach and shallow drop.

Yeah amazing value with the wheels. I was also looking at a Specialized Venge or Tarmac Expert, but couldn't justify paying more for those two bikes than the Trek and they came with stock standard alloy wheels.

Can you recommend some Ti skewers?

The seat mast is the Bontrager Seat Mast cap, its full carbon so I think its the one you're talking about. I had a look on the Trek website and its the only option. Didnt even bother riding the Bontrager Tires, took them off and replaced them with trusty Rubino Pro's. Might go back to Conti 4000's or the new Michelin Endurance tire when these have run their course.

I'm very happy with the Zipp Ti skewers. That said, if you're not happy with cross-branding, I have friend who swears by KCNC skewers. He's got them on all his bikes. I have a set of the older Bontrager Ti skewers on my wife's bike, as well as my Madone 4 (vacation bike), and they're alright, but I wouldn't really consider them "weight weenie" material.
