My first post...
A little story about why I've made the move to disc brakes
Image

This happened at the end of Le Race, Christchurch to Akoroa.

Going downhill front Token carbon clincher delaminated.

Luckily my wife could see the potential for injury and she positively begged me to spend a fortune on the best and lightest disc brake bike I could find..

Yeah that doesn't look good, luckily you didn't crash. How old are the wheels, any warranty on them.?
What a great wife letting you spend loads on new wheels, go crazy with the money I say Lol.
Now let us see the frame please :)

Get some pics of the new bike up asap!! I'm really tempted by a disc brake bike next.

This, please post more. Every time someone makes a road disc thread I get both curious to see how people built their bikes and jealous if their frames are lighter.

I've seen what I think must be your bike in Chain Reaction on Moorhouse Ave.

Very very impressive.

Never thought I'd want a disc road bike but now keen on one for wet weather training. Like the look of the Izalco as one of the few properly light disc road frames and your build is to die for.

Would be good to meet on the road some time.

Cheers
GJ

Yep...the wheel started to pulse horribly under braking before it delaminated catastrophically.

Bought wheels off someone who had back injury but they'd done a couple of hundred kms.

Wheels are Token C28 & I contacted them to inform them of potential issues.

There response was that I shouldn't have been using SwissStop brake pads, as SwissStop brake too hard and may cause heat build up.

The response irritated me as nowhere in Token's sales blurb does it say to only use Token pads.

They did offer money off new wheels...but too late as damage done.

I didn't go too crazy...
Bought 2016 Dura ace mixed bike weighed 7.5kgs out of box

They also make SRAM Red only 6.8kgs but lots more money.

Understandably my wife said weight of bike not that important...she smirked & poked my stomach when I tried to explain about Weight Weenies.

Hey, no I bought the bike from KiwiVelo in Wellington.

I was up there for National Brass Band championship...no honest it is as cool as it sounds.

Had spare time between performance...bought a bike.

I love the Izalco Disc, I commute 240kms a week and try and fit in a 40-80 km ride at weekend.
Discs are brilliant for the wet, the hills and avoiding cars.

It's a shame the earthquakes have made long bays a non starter. We tend to go up either Evans or Dyers, down the Bstard and up the other side of Dyers.

Where in Christchurch are you?
