I have been looking for a used Trek Madone from 2004-7 as the basis of a weenie build with Campagnolo. I always liked the US Postal Builds with the Newton Stems and downtube levers for the front mech and will build something similar but with Campagnolo.
I have been inspired by Daddy Yo Yo's build and will try something similar on a budget. I have finally found the frame and forks and will post pictures when I pick up the frame and forks on Saturday. It is currently in the grey with white and red decals with a Bontrager XXX-Lite Fork (non-stock).
I have sanded all the paint off the frame and forks and had it refinished with a satin clearcoat.
Anyway here is the build with weights:
sanded and refinished frame - 1089 grams
sanded and refinished fork inc starnut - 360 grams
Chris King Headset - 80 grams
Bontrager XXX-Lite Tubulars (stealth look no stickers) - 1260 grams
Veloflex Carbon Tubulars 260x2 - 520 grams
KCNC Titanium Skewers - 45 grams
Selcof debadged stem -10 Deg 110mm stem - 132 grams
Deda Nastro Pink bar tape - 22 grams (not full roll)
FSA ultralight compact handlebars 42cm width - 176 grams
Fibrelyte Top Cap - 9 grams (inc bolt).
Smud Seatpost/ Saddle - 168 grams
Smud seat tube collar - 9 grams (inc bolt).
Campagnolo Record 10 Speed Right hand lever - 168 grams
Campagnolo Record 10 Speed Left hand lever modified to brake lever only - 122 grams
Campagnolo Downtube Lever for front mech - 19 grams
Campagnolo Super Record RS Front Mech -69 grams
Campagnolo Super Record rear derailleur - 168 grams
Ciamillo front brake - 89 grams

Does anyone know what the o.d. measurement of the seattube is? My smud 31.8mm isn't big enough...
Per this manual, http://www.vintage-trek.com/Trek-Fisher-Klein-Lemond/2004specmanualTrek.pdf, it's a 27.2mm OD.

OEM Left hand side brake lever. I have looked for a while for a Campagnolo Record Brake Lever like Timo's. The only pair I have seen were too expensive for the build, but I will continue to look. This one weighs 114 grams which isn't too bad. It looks ok too. It's part of the early 2000s Grand Tour mountain stage look that I am going for with this build. My Campagnolo Record left ergopower shifter weighs 169 grams and the Dura Ace down tube lever weighs 32 grams. Therefore, not including the extra ilink housing this saves 23 grams.

Madone 5.5 SL frame. I got a great deal on this, it needs a respray at the end of the season and the headset needs a bloody good polish (Chris King NoThreadset in silver). This frame is a 58cm and weight 1148 including the Chris King Headset (without crown race). I am pleased with this. Eventually I will either get it resprayed in gloss black with pink decals, or the reverse. Would appreciate some thoughts on this. I will go for a giro pastel pink rather than a dark or fluoro pink.

Fibrelye top cap and screw 9 gm. One of the signature parts of this build is the Deda Elementi Newton 26.0mm Stem. This is the 2003 model onwards with the red logos. Deda weights are always unreliable, this 120mm weighs 149 gm not the 130 advertised. Still I love the looks and Armstrong always used one from 2001-2004.

Smud saddle 68 gm and seatpost 100 gm. I find this combo comfortable with a decent pad in my bibs. I think it looks great on this build too! For the moment I will use the crap looking bontrager seat collar that came with the frame. I have ordered a 34.9mm smud one and will wait (Piotr is never speedy but I love his products!)

Campagnolo Super Record RS front derailleur 69 grams. However, I am struggling to get it to work with the downtube lever. I have never set up a downtube lever before and I am struggling to get the front derailleur to move out enough to get the chain to climb onto the large chainring. I have messed around with the outer limit screw and it still doesn't quite get the chain on, would appreciate some ideas here.....
