So, a question for weeniedom. I am looking at a couple of New Old Stock 26" Scott Scale bikes. One is the SL, the other the Premium. I realize 26" is an anachronism but I have tried the 27 and 29 and don't care for them. Plus these bikes are GREAT deals since they are old and 26". Per Scott's 2012 catalog, the SL is 16.43 lbs in size M, whereas the Premium is 19.38. The SL is about $2,000 more. My question is this: Am I better off buying the Premium and swapping out select parts to drop the weight? In past projects I have done this. That way I get cash from selling the slightly heavier parts that I can use toward lighter ones. What I do not know here however, since I am more a roadie, is whether there are any insurmountable issues on the Premium build? I don't think so but that's where I welcome feedback. My general plan would be to swap the 3x crankset for a 2x with probably SRAM XX (I do want 2x, not 1x), and change the 3x front der. with XTR. Beyond that I would assume the biggest weight differences between the Premium and SL are the wheelsets and the fork.

Any feedback appreciated (other than telling me I shouldn't get a 26er).

I built my 2012 premium, stripped frame (816g) etc and have gotten it down to 5.7kg with most parts, NOS or preowned from flebay or other forums, so the costs were pretty good. I have some Scale 600RCs if your after a cheap frame
