Hello all,
I'm a long-time lurker of this forum, but this is my first time posting!
It's a 2016 Cervelo R2 which originally came with 105 componentry.
The first thing I've done is switch the stock wheelset with Campagnolo Zondas, which shaved off 300-400 grams.
So far, I've upgraded to DA 9000 components except for the cranks, of which I ended up going for Rotor 3D+ with Power2Max and aero Q rings.
I also have changed the stock saddle to a Chinese "GUB" carbon saddle (150g spec), which I find surprisingly comfy.
Current weight of the build is 7.4 KG (w/o bottlecages & garmin mount)
My ultimate goal is to get the bike weight down to 7Kg under a reasonable budget.
I'll be doing the following next:
- Changing Shimano skewers (120g?) to Zipp Ti Aero skewers (65g spec)
- Changing random inner tubes (Assuming 110/tube?) to Vittoria Latex tubes (75g/tube spec)
But after that, I'm somewhat lost on where to shave weight from.
The first things I can think of are the 3T bars and stem.
I believe they are OEM parts for Cervelo, but I can't find much weight information on the bar and the stem.
The bar just says 3T Ergonova (non-pro/team) and the stem just says ARX.
What would be good cheap-ish upgrades from here to reduce the weight as much as possible?
Things to note are:
- Not willing to go tubular
- Trying to stay under $500 if possible

Slowbuild wheelset bor373 on novatec hubs - 1280g,
Continental supersonic tube - claimed 50g, actual 55g,
Tufo calibra lite - 150g,
Ebay titanium qr - 40g.
And +1 for comment above.

Free weight - how much seat post is in the frame? Cut that down to the min for some free savings.
Otherwise you can get a considerably lighter seatpost from e-bay and still cut that down for even greater savings.
Also agree with the QRs above.

Pretty standard recommendations:
hylix seatpost should be good for ~50g
kalloy stem
carbon bars
pedals (I've had really good luck with used pedals, might not be a budget killer)
I don't know chainring weights too well, but aero rings are definitely not the lightest. Bar tape varies in weight a lot more than you might expect, but not sure what you're running now.

Hi all,
Thanks for all the suggestions.
I have the following in the mail:
40cm Ergonova Team (200g?)
Ti Bolt-on Skewer (38g) (AEST 2015 Titanium Bolt On Skewers)
Kalloy Uno Stem 90mm (100g?)
http://www.ebay.ca/itm/KALLOY-UNO-AL-70 ... RTM2247625
Ti Bolts for the Stem (Toronto Cycles)
Carbon Spacers (Toronto Cycles)
Lighter Topcap & Al Bolt (Toronto Cycles)
Al Bolt for Bottle Cages (Toronto Cycles)
Hopefully this drops the weight by 200-250 grams or so.
I'll update with the actuals once they arrive.

So I've done few things to make the R2 lighter:
Handlebar
Ergonova OEM (40cm) -> Ergonova Team (40cm)
Before:
300 grams
After:
Forgot to take a picture
201 grams ===> 99 grams saving
Top Cap
Cervelo Top Cap -> Aerozine Topcap with AL Bolt (Toronto Cycles)
Before:
16 grams
After:
7 grams =====> 9 grams saving
Headset Spacers
*I'll cut the steerer after getting a proper bike fit later this season
Cervelo Spacers -> Carbon Spacers from Toronto Cycles
Before:
33 Grams
After:
15 Grams =====> 18 grams saving
=======================
Cost:
Ergonova Team -> $100 CAD
Spacers -> $12 USD
Top Cap -> $7 USD
Total saving of 126 grams
======================
I also received Ti Bolts that I'll be using with Kalloy Uno stem and a Ti Bolt on Skewers (AEST 2015 Ti Bolt-on).
But the brake rub with the Ti skewers is quite severe.
I realize nothing will match the Shimano skewers in terms of functionality, but are all Ti skewers this flexible?
I can flex the rod with my hand.
