BMC 2016 slr01 or slr02

I am in the market for a new race bike. I was thinking about a 2016 red slr01 or a 2016 black slr02 both with ultegra di2.

difference, as far as I know is

frame weight: +160 gram for slr02. (but I heard the red slr01 has 130gram paint job...)
wheelset: slr02 has rs21 - slr01 has DT Swiss R23 Spline. But I have wheels (fulcrum zero) that I can use.


Is there a rational reason for choosing the more expensive slr01 ? Would be eventually 1000 euro extra.

One difference is the cable routing. Brake cables are external on the 02, internal on the 01. Depends on which you prefer.

I remember hearing on another thread that the SLR02 is based on the previous SLR01. While I never rode the old SLR01, I have spent about 1,000 km on the new SLR01 and can say without reservations, it's one of the best lightweight frames on the market, and that's comparing my experience with the F8, R5, Scott Addict Team, 2016 Evo hi-mod and the Tarmac. I was back and forth b/w the Evo and the SLR01 but ended up with the Evo based mostly on esthetics . Both are phenomenal rides. The evo handles a little bit quicker than the SLR01, but that not necessarily an advantage; more a preference.

a friend of mine works in a bike shop and said the owner of the shop visited ones the factory in Switzerland on invitation - he states there is definitely a different carbon layup - this gives a ( slightly? ) different ride.

another difference are carbon dropouts compared to alu on the slr02

SRL01... Do it. Most underhyped amazing bike there is. It is much better than the R5 and the only real competition is the Evo High Mod (within the category). You will not regret it.

the 02 definitely has a different layup, and is externally routed. its a fine bike though and is as light as the outgoing 2013 model, but has a far better stiffness to weight ratio around the BB. also the layup of the 01 make it a more efficient bike in a sprint or when putting the power down than the 02.

if you have the money go for the 01, but the 02 is still a very fine frame....
