Got this Hi Mod for pretty cheap, so I figured it'd make a good long term project assuming I don't get dismembered by my wife for how many builds are going on. To make this interesting, maybe it should be a "Sub 5kg for Sub $2K USD Project"?

nice bike and should be a great project! That paint really looks caked on judging by the deep chips around the brake port on the fork. Frankly, I don't know how paint chips off that badly around where the brakes were mounted but I can only take it that whoever did the initial install didn't really use a torque wrench and just kept spinning deeper into the frame..

Hoping for a great build, keep us updated!

I would like to see what you do with this. Wheels especially will be tough at the price you are shooting for. There are enough inexpensive parts like the Uno stem and other items but I am more interested in how you tackle the usually more expensive parts.

Reynolds ThirtyTwos have a market price of ~$550 and weight is ~1060g.

As I put together the spreadsheet though, it's looking like I'll have to choose cheap/questionable parts just for the sake of making a cost target, not what I'd actually want to use. The little things are adding up too and I wouldn't have room in the budget cap to get the frame clear coated.

See if you can meet the goals without using knockoff parts (i.e., use name brand only). You are off to a good start. :thumbup:

I would agree. There are a couple of places that you can save like the stem, post, bars, seat but cranks and wheels might be tough.

Red BB30 cranks have to be one of the best values out there. I checked ebay and they seem to go for around $150ish. At 370g, that's about the same weigh as a THM M3 and with the right rings, it'd be less than my SISL2 52/36 spidering combo.

Aican has a new housing which I ordered. It's $30 and looks like traditional housing. It's supposed to be the same g/m as iLinks.

Seatposts you're somewhat limited because you need 25.4mm. Hylix cut down was sub 100g for Godzuki.

Bars, if you go cheap, then Easton EC90 SLX's are 170-180g and around $60 on ebay, about half the price of used 3T Ergonova LTDs.

Only the 2016 on frames have the 25.4mm post, you're on a conventional size post for this so can get a cheap, light Hylix!
