My "parts bin" aluminium travel bike (testing S-1)

I needed a bike that was robust enough to survive travel/ airport baggage handlers but still met basic aesthetic requirements (i.e. not look sh!t). Absolutely love the frame- ride quality and handling is superb, especially for aluminium. It's by no means a WW build but I'm pretty happy with the result. Big thanks to Zak @ Skunkworks for sourcing the frame and building it up!

Nice to see handmade aluminium frames about...are the Lightweights the best choice for travelling wheels or are they just for the pic/local rides?

I alternate between boras and lightweights- boras for some longer rides as are glued with 25mm arenbergs which seem to be a little more durable than the carbons.

In standard sizes yes however they can do custom geo as well

My other experience with aluminium was a caad10 I built up a year ago. Although I loved the geo the frame felt rather cheap and the BB was a pita. The Spooky in its current form doesn't have the harshness of the CAAD and yet feels stiffer and more lively. I don't really think of the material once I ride it and don't get the sense it's beating me up as some other spooky owners have noted. The threaded BB is a godsend.

My "flagship" bike is a 5.4Kg NeilPryde rolled in glitter (McFK, Extralite, lightweight etc.). It's not really appropriate to compare the two because they're so different. The Spooky does feel more "sure footed" probably because of the geo being slightly more relaxed and the extra 1.2kg of weight?

I love the Spooky, especially because it's aluminium and not so exotic- it's fast becoming my favourite!

Hey Wookski, how's the bike almost 3 months later? I'm considering getting a Spooky but there are very little reviews online!
